I have a 13 year old Yorkie who needs to be put under anthesthia because he really needs to have his teeth cleaned and also seems to have some sort of blockage in his left nostril so the vet needs to take a close look at. He is prone to havig seizures, petit mal seizeures not the grand mal seizures. I am concerened the anthesthia will just be too much for him, not sure what to do.

Have you said your concerns to your vet?

I wouldn't worry TOO much. As long as your vet knows your dogs condition - they should know to be wary of it :)

All Belgians are very sensative to anesthesia and most Vets do now know this. I had to give a pamphlet my breeder made up to my vet so she can be aware of this.

I agree to talking with your vet about your concerns. Are the teeth that dirty that maybe some bones will help clean them. Also if anesthesia is necessary to examine the nose, maybe only a little bit just to have a calming effect could be used.

I just talked to the vet and I have more to worry about!
He said he can give a specific anthesthia to dogs with seizures and now that seems to be the least of my worries!

He said the nasal blockage could be a mass or a tumor. He also said operating on that sort of thing is pretty invasive and expensive. I am not worried about the money part but if its cancer I dont think I can put him thru all that - the surgery and treatment. He is 13 years old, I dont think he can hold up. I take him in next Friday to see what the blockage is from and I just know it isnt going to be good news.

I'll be saying a prayer that you get good news. Give your pal a hug from me.

This is a worry for you !!! You are doing the best for your pup... teeth cleaning is very important with an older dog. Only you know how much vetting you have had for both problems , how well you know the vet and how well he/she knows you dog. Please keep us posted.
