*waves* Hey! I'm actually only about 2 hrs from Longview. There are plenty of things to do outdoors if the heat doesn't kill you. Just search online for Texas Parks and Wildlife and see what's close to you.

Arkansas has some really beautiful landscapes and lakes that are probably only a 3-4 hours drive from you, so check that out too. You're close enough to Dallas to enjoy a day trip there and get out of small town Longview. Check out Shreveport if you like to gamble, they also have the boardwalk there, so its a neat place to go.

There are some decent dog clubs in your area if you are interested in any of that. PM me and I will give you more info.

Also, I agree with the 'coke' thing. If someone asks you just say "What do you have".

Yes, I agree w/ Sunnier too! Even if you think you don't like mexican food, try it.

Also gonna add, if you aren't from the south at all, try the sweet tea, but be warned..... it is sweet!!!!

Longview is GREEN....that part of Tx close to La. has some HUGE trees and such...DRY texas...is WEST.

We have and had GREEN LUSH grass all thru summer and such, ours goes dormant in Fall...St Augustine is Texas tough grass...get some.

Buy drought tolerant plants...simple eh? Hostas do great in shady areas...that's what I have. Boxwood can hang...sunflowers do wonderfully in full sun here in my area.

TX is a big allergy state...if you don't have them now you will within 10 years or so. Someone said this to me when I moved here in 1998 and I laughed but I have minor allergies now. Things are bigger here and that includes pollen grains...lol. Your dogs allergies could be contact ones or inhalant ones to a different plant that isn't native where you came from. So look into allergy testing and check what you're feeding.

I am in N Texas DFW area...and I love it here. I love heat and like cold so long as it goes away quickly so this part of the state has been great. Fabulous cost of living and opportunities for home ownership...dh has a great job and kids are in a good school....so I have enjoyed living in Tx.

Thanks for all the great tips so far guys, keep em coming! I've known about the coke thing. Tim has been here before and "warned" me.
I agree with the mexican food comment. It is AWESOME, and there is A LOT to choose from...like atleast one place per street corner. Honestly. I just can't get over not having a choice of ... well anything else. :)

So, Stormy could have allergies? Why should that surprise me being that she is dainty as Sunny is rowdy. Any ideas of what to do besides allergy testing (I've been there before with another dog...don't get me started on what a waste it was!)

I have an allergy dog and she has done wonderful since we started feeding raw about a year ago. She did really well on grain free food too though. You might try switching to a grain-free diet if you aren't feeding it already. Also the dosage for benadryl is 1mg per lb for dogs :)

Have to second the raw food. We had a bullmastiff that was bred in Washington, and while she was with us had a terrible outbreak of allergys. We returned her due to some herditary problems, and last I heard once she got back into the Washington climate, allergys were not a problem. While she was here, we started her on the raw diet, and cut the allergy problems in half, followed with some benedryl the itching was controlled.
