Brussels Griffons

Okay, so I have been obsessed with this breed of dog for quite some time. Just recently I have decided to start talking to people that have them and really learning about the breed.

If you have experience with Griffons, please feel free to chime in and tell me anything and everything about them. I can very easily see myself having pugs and griffs someday...

I know diddly squat about the breed but I thought it was odd I just read a thread about a guy who just brought one home on a different forum. I have taken a liking to this breed.

I have 2 and am completely and totally obsessed as well. I will always have a Brussels....always!
I have a little rough coat Amos, and a smooth girl named Lola. I'll post better pictures tomorrow, they're on my other computer.
Here's Amos and Lola. Amos is from show lines (breeder neglect seizure - Rosie's grandson, and Lola from a puppy mill seizure.

This was Rosie shortly before she passed away. She was blind and deaf but she was the most loving and devoted dog one could imagine.

Amos with his Christmas Mohawk. He's a man with many looks....and such a charmer.

Lola, the way she always looks....pure sweetness.

dr2little! I have been so jealous of your dogs for quite some time. I love seeing their pictures. They are such expressive little dogs. I have loved the breed for a really long time. Find myself day dreaming at the shows while watching them. Someday one will be mine, lol! I am obsessed with the roughs!

(Was corresponding with a breeder Dr2 knows and has worked with.)If you can live with an abundance of personality, charm and affection, these dogs are for you! Rosie was beautiful, Dr2! Everything I read about them reminds me so much of pugs. I am BIG into wire/rough coats though - something my pugs are truly lacking. Nothing beats a beard on a dog. I have always wanted a dog I can strip and groom.

there such big personalities and soo cute, they remind me of furry little people in every way, (then again many dogs do) but brussels remind me of 5 yr olds, playfull but dignified.

You wouldn't believe it if I told you.....I've been meaning to post the whole story in it's own thread because it's just too unbelievable. She's happy, safe and very well loved.....Look for the thread, I'll try to post it tonight!

This is one of those "NO WAY" kind of stories that people here in Calgary who know both Maggie (the breeder) and I, just can't stop talking about.

I used to have Bruxeollois Griffs [rough] which I showed. Ive had Boxers over 20 years now so it was a while ago. What can I saw about them, well they are the gentlemen and ladies of the canine world! Quiet and dignified. They will attach themselves to one person although happy to share their life with the family but there will always be that one person in the family that they give their life to.

They are not a lap dog but they love to lie beside you on a chair or sofa.

Best to hand strip that coat. Getting them stripped out and praying that the coat will come through in time for the next show can be a nail bitting experience. On the plus side stripping them down to the undercoat means that you have a puppy [ha ha] again with its soft puppy like feel. I always said mine were in their "pyjamas" stripped down.

As for showing, they will show their socks off for you, not because they especially enjoy it but more because they will do it for you to please you and because they know you love them.

I have a friend who breeds and shows Pugs. Lovely little characters.

Oh, thank you so much for sharing your experience and information on the breed. My good friend shows a BG for someone on the side and she loves that little dog. She says he's a blast to show.

I am so interested in these dogs. I am going to start spending some time at the brussels ring.

I have been completely won over by the breed.
I am not in general a small dog person. I don't like bearded dogs but I LOVE these little guys!

A gal I do rally with has two and they are exploding with personality. Her one little dog is known for walking across each one of our laps as we sit in a row to greet each of us. It's freaking adorable. The dogs also do OB really well. I'm not sure the judge has a chance at scoring them objectively because she's too busy going "aaaaaaaaaaaw"

Amos is so cute. I would have guessed Amos for Lola and Lola for Amos- he's too pretty to be a boy!

I absolutely love them and would love to have one as my next addition to our family. There is someone at the dog park who has two of them and they are quite the characters--and Wrigley's best friends as they are about the same size as him--so it works out well.

They seem well behaved, friendly, and outgoing.

I am currently learning more about the show ring and would love my first show prospect to be a griffon
