My pup Jasper (kelpie x border collie) is about 5 1/2 months old now. We've started basic training and he is doing really well. There is one thing that is driving us mad however, and I am hoping that by posting this someone will be able to give us a hand.
In our backyard we have a chook pen with about 11 chooks and 2 indian runner ducks. Jasper is now in the habit of digging his way into the pen to either 1) scavange amongst the scraps that are in there or 2) herd the chooks into the hen house.
He gets walked for 1/2 hour every morning, then 1/2 hour in the evening followed by a 1 hour trip to the dam. He has a kong and receives plenty of attention during the day. He hasn't harmed any of the chickens, but I don't want him to ever have the chance to. Oh, and he is strictly an 'outside' dog.
So, does anyone have any ideas as to what I could do?
