Have you guys seen the show animal cops? I think it's cruel to let the owners do that to their pets. It is a really good show to watch.

I hate that show. One time they were trying to bust a cockfighting ring in someone's house....so they broke in without a warrant, when nobody was home, and confiscated all the birds. Oh, and when they broke in, the ACOs were all skulking around with their guns drawn, like they were in some kind of movie.

The treatment of those birds from the ACOs was appalling. I mean, cockfighting is really awful, but honestly they were being treated really well. Unlike dog fighters, cockfighters tend to treat their game birds like gold because they are worth a lot of money. The cages were spotless, like they'd been cleaned an hour before. That is hard to do with chickens unless you are spot-cleaning several times a day. The birds were all healthy and bright eyed with plenty of food and water.

The roosters were all friendly and like "Hey! Is he bringing us a snack?" when the camera crew and ACOs came in with weapons drawn. Then, and this part PISSED me off, he flung open a cage and GRABBED THE BIRD BY THE WINGS and started shaking it shrieking, "QUICK! GET A BAG! HE'S GOING FOR MY EYES!" I seriously wanted to slap that guy. Does he not realize how much he scared that bird, or that he was really really hurting it? Does he need to be dangled and shaken by the arms too?

I'm sorry, but game fowl are no more human aggressive than game dogs. These are birds that need to be constantly handled by their people. I mean, people SHAVE them for goodness sakes. Historically they were family owned and attacking the master's children was NOT tolerated from a bird.

The conclusion of that little episode was that:

1. They euthanized all the roosters because they were too "aggressive" to adopt out. One was a gorgeous yokohama too. :( I know several game bird fanciers who would have taken those birds in a heartbeat and given them a place to live out their lives, with a couple of henny friends.

2. All the evidence they collected was thrown out by the judge and no charges pressed because it was collected by an illegal entry without a warrant.

Not only did they murder a bunch of innocent birds because of prejudice, they let the cockfighting scum get away because they were too excited to pull out their guns and show off in front of a camera. I HATE that show.

And don't even get me started on the time they took away some dogs and cats from a guy that lived in a trailer, JUST because he lived in a trailer and they thought he had "too many". There was no law limiting how many he could have. They were all strays he rescued off the street. He had vet records for them all. They were all up to date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and totally loved. When they showed up he started crying and said "No! Not that one! Oh no! Not that one either! I love her!"

It's like they didn't have anything serious going on so decided to take a handful of beloved dogs and cats away from that guy to have something to show for the camera crew again. They should stick to emaciated neglect cases. At least those are justifiable.

I was expecting more drama from this thread.. lol.

I think the show is alright. I'm sure it gets a little exaggerated, but still it's good to know that they do get some good things done. Every cop makes mistakes, every person makes mistakes. And it's not uncommon for people with power to make the wrong choices..

That being said, I think they do a lot of good with getting abused animals out of their abusers hands. When it comes to either having no animal cops or having animal cops that do make mistakes, I'll take the animal cops. The animals that are saved are worth it :)

My problem with the show was the "mistakes" being made were a direct result of them trying to show off for a camera. If there was no show, then you would just have animal cops doing their jobs.

There are *some* shows I like... but some just really tick me off.

I really hate the miami animal cops... they just p!ss me off to no end. Huston is hit or miss, and NY usually isn't *that* bad....

but for the most part I agree with Romy... I think they spend more time showing off infront of the camara, and that hurts not only the animals but also innocent people.

The only one I'll watch is Animal Precinct, which is the one in NYC. They actually like, try to rehab pit bulls and other dogs and stuff. The other shows tend to tick me off.

Although there was that one Detriot episode where I totally agreed with the euthanasia of the shepherd mix. They did the food aggression test, and he went BESERK. It was scary. They spent all that time fixing his embedded collar and getting him healthy too. Most of the time I don't agree with euthanizing a dog immediately if they have a little bit of food agression; depending on the severity it can be worked out. In that shepherd mix's case though, I totally understood. 0_o

i try not to watch any of those shows... i had to deal with insane, horrible pet owners for years when i worked at a pet store, i'm all out of patience for those types of people. I seriously would just draw my gun and shoot them.

Hence why I don't watch it, and don't own a gun. :)

Meh...I really am not a fan of the show. Everytime I watch it, it seems I end up shaking my head in disgust over the way they treat bully breeds.

I remember watching an episode a while back and they used pedigrees as proof that the person fought his dogs ..."because they had CH fighters a few generations back" or some sort of BS like that  Sad, but I guess that is the world we live in today.

In another episode (miami) I watched recently, there where two pit bulls that killed quite a few rabbits. They kept saying "what if it was a child!" and deemed the dogs dangerous. Mind you the dogs were not aggressive to the people whatsoever. Idiots. I wonder what they would have done if it was a coonhound or hunting breed? Pit bulls are banned in that city I understand, but there was really no reason why those dogs couldn't have gone to a rescue out of miami city limits.

Are you kidding me?!?

Hey everybody! You better watch out for the bloodthirsty whippets. Those savage rabbit killers'll be after your children next.
