I dug up some old pictures again and thought they were fascinating!

This is Billie in Spring of 2006:

and now (Dec 2010)

If I hadn't known her throughout the time, I don't think I'd recognize her!

I LOVE the way Appies change colors :) Is that what's called Varnish?

Or is she just greying out?

I LOVE watching color in horses change... I can't wait until my mini is born this upcoming Spring. I'm going to be taking TONS of pics to see the possible changes in color that he/she might have over the years. One of my friends had a beautiful chestnut that turned into more of a strawberry roan. Her mom is a dapple grey and I have a feeling she's going to grey out more and look more like her momma.

That's a really pretty horse!

My mom wants to know if it's a seasonal change with your horse, or if Billie's white all the time now. She used to have a Welsh pony that was the color in the top photo during warmer months, and in the winter he'd grow white guard hairs all over and look exactly like the bottom photo. Then he'd shed them out in the spring and look like the top photo all over again.

As far as I know, Billie is a varnish roan appaloosa. She's been roaning out over time. I didn't know her when she was a foal, but it would be interesting the contrast between then and now. These pictures are of her at about 8 and 12.

Granted, the first pic was taken in April and the 2nd in December, so the winter coat could be playing some effect, but primarily it's been a gradual thing over time. It's quite fascinating! I'll post a recent summer pic later.
