So, I'm training for a marathon, to be accomplished this June. :)

After our kickoff event Jan. 30th I went to one of the suggested stores and got properly fitted for shoes. They recorded how I walked, and measured my feet and did all that hoopla. I got my new shoes and arch insert supports. I started wearing the shoes right away. They worked great. Love them.

Fast forward 5ish weeks. At our 6 mile training, I got really severe pain in my right foot and was overcompensating on my left foot and I got blisters. They told me to take out my inserts (because of the pain in my foot) and to try walking without them. Well, I wasn't getting any pain in my right foot, but every walk I now get blisters.

We had our 9 miles walk this morning and my coach made me turn back early because half a hour into the walk I had to stop and dress a new blister. So I ended up only walking 7 miles. Boo.

So far I have tried: blistershield powder, 2nd skin, glide, new/different socks. I do not wear any cotton whatsoever, so worries there. Coach is kinda baffled. He told me that he wants me to put vaseline on my feet and two pair of socks. I am HOPING that this works. BUT, I'm curious if any of you athletes out there have any suggestions. :)

I do have a couple other options: put my inserts back in and see if the blisters go away. Try new shoes (I have a couple weeks on my "warranty" even though they are the most comfortable shoes ever).

TIA. :)

There's a special kind of running sock my mom has that has a double layer of fabric on the heel so if the shoe rubs it won't cause blisters (apparently). Dunno how well they work though.

For me, i can only relate to you in skates. If your equipment isn't fitting right, your performance will be off. I'd go back to the shoe store, tell them what's going on and let them help you. They'll know shoes and know what feet need. Whenever my skates don't feel right (feet do change over time especially if you're training harder or lighter than you used to) i go back to the shop that fitted them and get suggestions.

Thanks. I'm going back tomorrow. I think a lot of it just may be that my body is adjusting to being... active (much more than I'm used to) and my mileage is increasing. I hope sometimes happen quickly though.

I also just bought some new socks to try, that are double layered. All of my socks (the different brands) are made of wicking fabric as well.

The double-layered socks work wonders. I love mine. In thinner ones I used to get blisters constantly from new shoes or hiking.

where are your blisters? on your heels? Also, is it the same one that just keeps re-forming cause it is not healing...or are they in a bunch of diff spots?

Many shoes (even women's) still have heels that are a bit too wide. For many, it is fine...but for some it makes it very hard to find a good fitting shoe. There are heel cup thingies that you can get that will minimize the slippage though - they are supposed to work really well (if your heel slipping around is the problem).

With that said, a really good fitting pair of shoes should not give you blisters & really should not really give you problems when you are breaking them in. When I switched running shoes, my knee pain almost instantly went away...then again, I was already active, so I am not sure how much of it is your body adjusting...but I can't imagine blisters would be such a problem.

Some of those running shops are really great, but I've also had some not so good experiences (it always seems like they know exactly what they are talking about though!). Do you have another one around? Maybe just try to get a second opinion.

Best of luck to you though!!!

Are you walking or doing any running/jogging?

Have you lost much weight since you started your training program?

If you have you might want to go back to your running store and have them reevaluate you. If you lost a significant amount of weight it can change the way you move. Any weightloss can shift your center of balance, plus when training for something you might be striding differently.

Yeah, I just bought some double layered, so I'm going to try those before wearing two pair of socks with vaseline. :)

Thanks. :)

The blisters are on the ball of my feet and they are not in the same place.

Most people don't think it's the shoe that is the problem. I wore them just fine for 5ish weeks with no issues. I don't have another pair, but I am going back to the store today to get my feet re-evaluated.

I'm walking and I am loosing weight as well. I haven't weighed myself in the last couple of weeks because my diet and walking hasn't been all that consistent, but overall I've lost a little over 30lbs.
