I got my puppy, Jaxon, very young at the tender age of 5 weeks. It was an accidental breeding and there were 10 puppies living outside in a hole. The owners of the mother were moving to Alabama and they were going to take all pups without a home to the shelter. Needless to say, I took Jaxon.

Now that you understand where he comes from, when I got him for the first week or two he ONLY went potty outside. He did not go inside at all. I still take him out just as much [if not more] and he still goes in the house so much!

I am crate training him and he will NOT go in his little home. But the moment you open the door to walk him ourside, he goes potty.

Do you think it was only a fluke that he wanted to potty outside in the begining? My friend says maybe he was used to the outside and now he is used to the inside. I don't know.

He is still young and my other two dogs took a while to train too. I just don't want him to be "relapsing" for lack of better words.

Your thoughts?

How old is Jaxon?

First thought is that if he pees while being walked to the door, CARRY him outside. My puppy did this too and after a week or so of carrying her to the door and setting her down outside, she figured out what I wanted her to do.

I think your friend is more or less correct. Until recently, he didn't see indoors as the right place to relieve himself. But since he gets the same bladder relief inside, it's kind of reinforcing to him so he's more likely to do it again. Just my thoughts on it, anyway. I know when my puppy would have a mistake, the relief was reinforcing to her and she'd be more apt to go again in the same spot.

I started to carry him outside a couple days ago and it has been working. Just a few moments ago he whined by the door and when I took him out he pooped. I think he knows what I want him to do but if he is pre ocupied he will just stop in his tracks and go. He puts his ears down afterward, so I know he knows it's wrong.

By the way.. Jaxon is only 12 weeks old. Very young to be worried but I was just curious because of the way he started out.

Thanks.
