:yikes: My lil bottle baby Bailey has taken to eating her own poopies. They are now eating dry kibble but this issue started up right when they went to dry food. Would it help to put her back on moistened?

She goes to the bathroom outside and we are keeping a close eye b/c she instanly turns and eats it. Is there a better way other than prevention?

Thank in advance

First, I'm wondering if she's eating enough; if she is, then maybe it's becoming a habit. I only know of watching the pup and picking up the poop right away. I hope others have more insight for you.

I would also check out the quality of the food. Foods with a lot of indigestible stuff like grains will come out similar to the way they went in, meat would be mostly digested but much of the grain will come back out. Then the poop has food and nutrients in it and is more appealing to the dog. Also if the food is low quality the dog may be craving nutrients that he is not getting from his food so he eats poop in an attempt to make up for the missing nutrients. More meat means the dog will be more satisfied.

I also agree with making sure the dog is eating enough.

Some dogs will eat poop just to clean up. It would be more common I'd think in dogs who had their mom as they'd see the mom eat the poop when they were babies.

and some dogs just like poop.

I would make sure he is always taken out on leash so you can keep him from eating the poop. You might want to try adding pineapple or some of those store bought poop deterrents to his food to make his poop taste bad just in case you mess up and don't prevent him from getting to it (these don't always work). Keep the yard clean.

I am feeding Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul Puppy Formula, My vet thinks she is over weight:confused:She will eat henrys food as well... She is UTD on worming,

I can add some meat to their diets my dogs eat alot of meat so it wont hurt to let the wee ones eat some as well.

And I will ask my vet about the meds ot make the poop taste bad. *TY*

And we wil just keep up preventing her form doing so.

First scour the yard and make sure ALL poop is picked up. You could also try leaving a poop out and putting like cayeene or meat tenderizer on it so she associates eating poop = burning mouth and not so pleasant experience.

ETA: Just noticed she's 7 weeks.. so maybe not try the later..

Hi
I have friends that put a little pineapple in their dog's food and it stopped the poop eating.
Good luck.

There are supplements you can give as well, one is for-bid, and I have used it and it really works well. It makes the poop taste terrible. If all else fails, try something like that.
