I was going through the " free pets" section of the Supershopper today. That is a local magazine here that exists only out of add's that people can put in there for free all they ask is that you buy the magazine in return.

As I started reading I was just shocked and I had to count....

59 kittens free to good home....(not all from one add obviously!!) one weeks worth of supershopper add shows almost 59 kittens that need to be home and those are not from the shelter, they have a completely different section with even more kittens! Why do people insist on leaving their cat unspayed/unneutered???? and then complain when they get stuck with the kittens! One person actually offered a mothercat and her kittens!

it just made me so sad to think about what will happen to half of those cats... I can only pray that they all find good homes but sadly if this is just one weeks' worth... and it's not even spring...
I just really wish people were a little smarter...
just wanted to share.

It is sad. I always notice there are more free to good home kittens than dogs. I don't know when people will realize that spaying and neutering is not all that hard. Drive to vet, drop pet off, wait a few hours, fork out a little money, drive back home.

It's because it's so much easier to have kittens than dogs. I had a friend who kept having kittens with his cats too, he didn't really care, it's not like they pee and poop everywhere and you need to socialize him. Plus, so many cats go outside, it's almost impossible to prevent a non spayed cat from being pregnant.

But now I want a kitten again!
