Ok, I would like to ask all dog owners and poodle owners.

My dog Skipper who I adopted in Feb 2007 & is a pure bred, is now chewing on his nails. Left paw middle & 'ring' nails are broken from chewing and was recently groomed on the 15th of May. We have tried tabasco sauce and that worked for 30 mins until he licked it off. (Apparently he likes it:)I just want to stop his nail biting habit! We have sprayed him to stop with a training sprayer, but that just stopped the licking his foot habit.

If you know some websites I would like to look and use them. Thanks!

P.S. We know its a nervous habit not allergies.

one of my poodles does this every once in awhile.

I havent found anything to stop her yet... I just try and distract her as much as possible when she gets going on her nails.

The doberman we had when I was little chewed her nails. If you got out the clippers she would force herself under the bed (lifting the whole thing up in the process) and chew at them until we either retrieved her from under the bed or left her alone. She never made herself bleed or anything, so we never had a problem with it. Have you tried talking to your vet about it?

Maybe they're too long for his liking? At least, that's the only reason the dogs I know (not mine) chew their's.

I have one dog that chews her nails, which is a signal to me that she needs a clip.
If your dog is chewing or licking her feet excessively, it could possibly be something in her food that she is allergic to.

Izzy chews on her feet/nails when she eats food with white rice in it.
What food do you have her on?
