I don't think I've ever gotten a picture of either of my two ACTUALLY in a stack, but here are some pictures of them from the side.
Chalo
Breed: Africanis/African village dog (born in Malawi)
Age: almost 3
Sex: M, neutered
Weight: 53 lb.
Height: 25 in.
Priya
Breed...
For Chalo, just a flat collar and 5-foot leash. Usually a martingale for Priya. Neither have them have ever tried to back out of a collar, but she is the less predictable of the two/a greater flight risk if she did get loose.
If we're hiking in an area where they both need to be on leash...
Anything really high energy, high drive, and vocal. Anything that pesters you with tennis balls and tirelessly begs you to play fetch. That would be...a pretty weird transition from my current two. Even just being *around* dogs like that throws me for a loop these days.
All of the young...
I feel a little bit guilty that Priya is a rescue from India.
I only consciously think about it when I explain her history and a see a wave of confusion and "why would you do that?" pass over people's faces. (Some of the reactions are stronger than that -- like the woman who said, "I would...
Bare minimum on the worst, coldest, busiest winter days: a 20-minute walk and short potty breaks. Hopefully some training and a few minutes of flirt pole indoors. I don't like to have too many days in a row like that, but if it happens it happens. They're very flexible and don't start bouncing...
SO, so gorgeous. I especially love the ones of Onyx trying to join you on the slackline! (Something tells me she could probably learn how to do it, with that brilliant malinois brain.)
For food, chews, treats, etc: Chewy and Amazon.
For leashes and collars: small businesses (especially on Etsy!). Favorites include Pear Tannery, Master's Pride, and Stibbar for leather goods; Hamilton Hounds and Dutch & Co. for martingales/limited slips.
I'm also quite new! (Or rather, a frequent lurker but a very infrequent poster.)
Chalo - 2.5 year old African village dog purchased for a dollar while I was serving in the Peace Corps in Malawi. Basically my heart and soul.
Priya - 1(ish?) year old Indian pariah dog from New Delhi...
I haven't owned dogs long enough to have established any firm, longstanding preferences, but I definitely find myself drawn to sighthound types. They're my aesthetic ideal, and temperament-wise I like cuddly, quiet, soft personalities who arc toward being aloof or indifferent to strangers...
I don't really have a breed, but a type -- two pariah dogs, one from Malawi and one from India.
There do present challenges I could do without (dead-serious prey drive being the biggest one) but there's lots to love. Moderate to low energy, innately good at settling and relaxing, easily...
