    My dog bit someone! Help!

Great post Chithedobe! Sound behavioural training is the only way to go.

    Gah. Sighthounds.

I trained in shelters for a while, absolute hardest environment to train in. I would rather train in a pool! I've had alot of experience with sighthounds, mostly greyhounds though. I don't think you have much chance of acheiving anything in the shelter environment. As for obedience, "sit" is not...

    American Bulldog

Jack Russels are easy to train. I would put them in the top twenty best dogs for obedience/trick work. Same goes for Bull terriers, though obviously when it comes to training the Doberman is higher up:) If you make it worthwhile for the dog, any breed will work for you. I had an Afghan that was...

    nipping ?

I agree with Saje, you have unintentionally been rewarding the behaviour! It's a great game for her and she enjoys it. Also, introducing a rousing game of tug instead of "Bite and wrestle with Mum".

Ready to move on to the next level

At the club we do one hour sessions, the dogs inevitably lose interest sometimes, and we do break it up with socialisation breaks. Get a good tug instinct going and you can break up the hour with tug sessions, whilst still maintaining interest. Write down exactly what you want to work on, then...

    I think he is cheating...

Might I add, don't stay with him out of fear of being alone. I did that for three long years before I got up the nerve to face life on my own. That is the hardest (and best) thing I ever did in my life.

    Any sighthound owners here?

I've never had a saluki, but I have had numerous greyhounds and trained afghans and whippets. I tend to disagree with the statement that they "can't be reliable", but you definetly have some more instincts to compete with. I found with the greyhounds (alot of which I got from rescue) training...

This is just my worst fear......

That sounds terrible. I know how hard it can be to give up a dog, they have such sad eyes as if they know exactly what is happening. I still have nightmares about someone taking my kelpie and she screaming as she is driven away. Its terrible. I certainly hope it can be controlled well enough...

    I am sickened (graphic)

http://www.animalsasia.org/ Animals asia website. As for writing letters to the chinese govermnet, I dont have the address at the moment though Im sure you can find that yourself. The trick is to be very polite and express yourself without insulting them. It is advised to speak of the practice...

    Any Australian Cattle Dog Owners?

These dogs should not be aggressive. I live in queensland, the heart of "heeler" country. I think every second dog I see is a cattle dog, and I've had about a billion of them. Great family dogs, and fantastic for training.

    I am sickened (graphic)

This is not new, nor is it isolated. Im an active member of the group "animals asia" and this kind of thing is just part or what is going on. This happens every single day in markets all over china. You think it's bad on video, you should see it in real life. They actuall believe that torturing...

    Slow to Respond...

Clicker training will help smarten up the behaviours and make them faster. A good tip is never to repeat a command, only say it once.

i dont get some of you ...

I don't want to judge anyone but seventeen hours is terribly long. Nine hours tops is my rule. I can't see any puppy developing properly mentally being confined in a kennel for seventeen hours a day. A puppy pen and secured room should have been made before buying the pup.
