Hey.. uuhhh... Anybody want to buy Texas? Canada? Mexico? We'll give them to you real cheap!
(just FYI I don't actually think all Texans are like this.)
Unfortunately, a majority of Texans
are like this. Even people my age (meaning high school age, and are stereotyped as 'more accepting' than older generations) are like this, and people aren't realizing that by not allowing refugees they are doing exactly what ISIS wants. It doesn't make sense when people say it is a threat to national security if they let the Syrian refugees in when many terrorists that join ISIS are American-born and bred. Letting in Syrian refugees isn't going to change the safety of our country.
Also, throughout time it has been proven that America doesn't allow refugees in and then will regret it later. For example, during the holocaust, American citizens didn't want to allow the Jews in as refugees because they didn't want to threaten national security. Obviously, now, we can see what a huge mistake America has made.
I live in a state that sadly has a high quantity of racist, xenophobic bigots and I'm willing to admit it.
A lot of people here are like that, whether they realize it or not.
in response to the last page or two :s
People are being so awful about this. I know there is no easy answer but jeez... since when is such a huge chunk of humanity seemingly incapable of any compassion?
Same. I bet if Americans were being persecuted and were attempting to flee America, they would heavily criticize any country that didn't allow them in. America has a lot to give, but is unwilling to give anything.
I have a friend who is muslim and from Kuwait. He just left the states after being here pursuing his bachelors. He was originally going to come back to visit, then head to Ireland for his masters. Now he has decided to take a hiatus from his schooling and stay at home for another year because he is afraid of how he will be received/treated due to the current political climate in regards to muslims/middle easterns.
That absolutely disgusts me, that he even has to be worried about something so asinine.
It's disgusting. My parents are Muslim and it saddens them when they watch the news and hear horrid things and stereotypes being thrown out about the Muslim/Arabic community. Mosques are being ransacked and disfigured everyday. I, myself, am not religious, but it affects my family and angers me very much. It's unfortunate that people are intolerant bigots unable to see the truth of what is occurring, and it is unfortunate that people who are innocent feel as if they have to change their actions because of these bigots.
