Oooh Tervs is a good one. I would love a Terv on looks alone.

It's cheating because I really like how shelties look. =P My aesthetic is definitely towards collies and shelties.

Oh man, so many.

Saluki was the first that came to mind for me, too.

Samoyed.

Dachshund.

Husky.

Weimaraner.

And of course, Border Collies.

And the Rough Collie (but not with huge crazy coat :p ).

(all random pics off Google).

long, sturdy legs, deep chest, intelligent face. I want a dog that I don't think will break and can take an active life style. I prefer prick ears & smooth coats.

I have a 19", fuzzy, flopped eared dog.

Especially Wandering Spirit Vom Wildweg (Haunter)'s structure. Though I think I may like the harlequin pattern better - if for no other reason than I feel it would stave off the "Omg is that a Doberman Rottweiler mix?!"
Haunter passed away this week :(

For me definitely high content wolfdog...so beautiful and so cool to be around, but I'm just not sure I could ever quite do it.

After that I get kind of specific within breeds, haha. Like I really like some Dutch Shepherds, but I like them less blocky headed than is normal, with less of a stop (so probably I like the Malinois mixes...), and with a dark mask. Brindling can be either quite dark or lighter, as long as the mask is really dark. Bonus is always light eyes, for any breed!

I love this old foster of Maggie Fan's...(photos belong to her)

With Malinois, I like either really dark all over, or else a lighter body but really dark face/chest/legs...here are a few that I really like.

And I really like some sable GSDs. I love Wuma!

And then I also have a thing for merle dogs, especially with blue eyes, but I also really prefer slight stops and not blocky heads, I find most herders have quite a pronounced stop usually. Getting nitpicky here for course, but that's what this thread is about, right?

All the dogs on this thread pretty much... :p

Ideally, not even a specific breed..but a dog with a structure similar to a Koolie or a Mal, with prick ears and a low tail... but in a reddish/chocolate tri.
Like this color and coat on a Koolie/Mal. So pretty much a Kelpie haha.

:rofl1:

Ibizan.

Honestly, I can't choose on looks alone because already have a bias on type/form=function.

There's one thing that bothers me on a dog though... greying faces . This is not a thing you should choose a dog over, but I just don't love it. I think I haven't looked at Tervs seriously because of this, the "milk moustache" drives me crazy.

Rotties are my first choice, then Ridgebacks (friend had one, he was the coolest dog) and English Cockers

I forgot Dalmatians and Viszlas! I really do like their looks too.

YES! It's so silly but I just don't like it. When I was hoping for a Greyhound I kept thinking "Anything but a black one because they go grey so fast."

Meg would like to tell you where you can stick your opinions on greying faces.

(I know jokes don't come across in writing - it's a joke. Trust me.)

My list is going to look like I copied the rest of you haha. But I promise I didn't. Apparently we all just have very similar taste.

I don't like using random pictures off of the internet cause I don't want to upset anyone, but, looks only I like:

Belgian Tervurens with faces that aren't too snipey. Especially grey ones without a lot of coat. And Groenendaels, also moderate without a lot of coat. Malinois (and Dutchies) also like all of the examples Kootenay shared. Those are the exact type of heads/faces I like on a Belgian.

Koolies. Preferably ones that look like Traveler and Zinga, and painted black or black/white. That would be perfection for me!

I've also always really love Salukis as far as looks go. They're so elegant and graceful looking, and I love the fringe.

A nice Rhodesian Ridgeback too. Something athletic but with substance and a richly coloured coat. They were almost our "after Rottweilers" breed before we stumbled into Dobermans. I think a Ridgeback would have suited my mom more, actually.

Dalmatians. I love their athletic build.

Leonbergers. Just something about them that I love. I want one really badly one day, but I don't know if I could realistically live with a large hairy dog. How would I bathe it as often as I'd want to? I can't imagine they fit in most household tubs haha.

And cheating... but of course I like the looks of the breeds I have, so:

Journey dogs haha. I don't love the look of all Aussies, especially really furry big boned ones, but I love her. She's moderate in every way and is IMO what an Aussie bitch should be.

Tollers. I can't find a picture right now of my ideal, but basically something moderate again (moderate coat, moderate bone, moderate size). Ones with a certain type of coat that is hard to describe. Much like Journey's though. Thick but not too long, and isn't soft and fine enough to tangle.

Dobermans. A nice Doberman, to me, is very eye catching and beautiful.

I like athletic, moderate sized dogs. Koolies, border collies, etc. I love JRTs that look like Siri. Mudis are awesome looking. and omg, field bred English Cocker Spaniels, yesss. ETA, I would like a GSD if it looked like Carma. Looove her structure.

Trent thinks graying dogs are rad, too, as a full fledged member of the Milk Mustache Club LOL (I'm not sure if I agree with him or not - I see all that gray and all I think of is UGH Y U GETTING OLD DOG?!?)

For me, the dogs I find absolutely stunning aesthetically are as follows

Saluki (heavy feathering, long legged, pale colored, Linds picked the perfect example!)

I mean, come on. They look like unicorns in dog form.

Long Haired Whippets (also very much in agreement with Linds!!). Photos stolen from Aura Sighthounds/speedydogs : )

Rhodesian Ridgebacks (a recent obsession)

Racing bred huskies (I have a fairly specific type of Alaskan Husky that I prefer, though some racing bred Sibes are right up my alley, too). Photos and dog owned by my friend at Hoof and Howl Farm.

Yarrow and some other ANCDs. Photos stolen from Brynne/Kootenay.

Quinn, obviously. Photos stolen from Charlotte/Sit Stay.

And German Shepherds. I won't feel guilty over that because everyone else is doing it, too, but I also happened to choose the breed based almost entirely on aesthetic appeal. Bad move and first time dog owner mistake, but worked out great!

Oh!! And Long Haired Weims. Only the LH variety, though, and heavy feathering is a must.
