What are your favourite colours/markings - either in general or for your breed or breeds you like? Pictures are always nice.

I love black/brindle staffords

Black and white or sable papillons

Black labs

Fawn or Brindle (with or without white) in whippets/greyhounds

I love the colour of Beanie's Pepper in shelties. Very pretty.

I like red Brittanys with heavy roaning (I think that's the term) and I think any dog with that patterning is pretty (English setters etc)

I don't tend to 'love' the colour brown/chocolate. Except for GSPs. I'd prefer a liver over black.

Black and white borders with more black.

At the end of the day I'm not very concerned with colour though, when it comes to next dog, it won't be high on the list of priorities. But we tend to have preferences.

Hmmm I like clear sable herders with nice black eyeliner...terriers with a nice dark red base with saddle markings and just a bit of white around the edges to dress it up...in Flatcoats I prefer a nice classy black over the liver color...and in BCs my favorite is black masked tri with symmetical, not overwhelming, Irish white markings.

Oh wait, I just described all my dogs... :p

In border collies, I like minimal white with lots of ticking...and the sable-y black saddlebackedy kind (yep, that's the name for that color).

Oh, and have a picture of Feist, because she's pretty much my ideal:

I can't get pics so I'll just list Chaz dogs for now.

Tricolor and black and white are generally my favorites in all breeds. Especially masked tricolors and dark tricolors. Gorgeous! That is followed by dark sables. Most breeds I tend to like those colors.

For paps, BCs, Aussies, etc the dark masked tris are totally my favorites. Like Lodin and Spy. Tricolor in general is pretty awesome.

Shelties are my one dog breed that (and collies too) that I don't like tris the best. Tris (merle and black) are my least favorite sheltie color for some reason. I think it's something to do with the head shape or something. I prefer mahogany sables or bi blacks in shelties. Followed by bi blues. Mahogany sable would be like Pepper or my Trey. Love it.

In pyr sheps I have really come to prefer the demi-rough blue merles. Like Ashley Deacon's Dash or Silvia Trkman's Le or Tani from the pyrshep tani blog. I also like the brindle and merle smooth faced dogs a lot. I think it's because pyrsheps have no white that I am more drawn to brindle and merle in them because I generally don't like merle or brindle much in other breeds. I don't care for the brindle in the rough faced dogs though. I do really also like the deep fawns with a dark mask.

I also always prefer black pigment to liver.

I like markings too vs a solid colored dog.

Chocolate tri in Borders. So much.

Other than that, I love certain Merle's but I'm really picky about it. Love bi-black Shelties enough to consider owning a Sheltie!! And I'll say rust coloured Vizslas are my favourite ;)

^before bringing home Lodin, this is what I would have said.

I love nearly-all-black sharp herder types. Was really tempted by a black Koolie several months ago...

Have always been a fan of black tris in any breed, except for the brown eyebrows for some reason.

I am so picky about merles too. I think the prettiest dog I've ever seen is a merle but a lot leave me... eh. Too cluttered looking or something. I like merle better on long haired dogs for sure and I tend to like really clean markings or really dark/minimally merled.

I do not like red merle/slate merle/lilac merle/sable merle much at all. Only black (well 'blue') with strong pigment and not too much white. Any tri markings must be strong and not washed out.

I tend to like dogs with some white, but not too much. Maybe 20-40% white? So Irish markings, basically and I prefer them to be mostly symmetric. I also tend to like blacks, sables, black tris, and true reds more than liver colored dogs. I prefer more intense colors vs those that look muted. I really like blue merles that aren't too busily patterned. On the other hand, I do love a sleek solid black dog, like a flat coat or a field spaniel. I definitely prefer black noses to pink/liver (the only thing I dislike about tollers and brittanies is the nose color)

My breed only comes in red and white, and I prefer the dogs that are red with white, rather than white with red, if that makes sense. It's kind of nice to be in a breed that comes in one color, because I don't have to worry about what color I like, or what color I would prefer. There are no preferred markings for show dogs either. My boy has the type of pattern I like with a mostly solid back, solid head with blaze, and white collar and belly. I could go for less white, but don't want more than this.

Typically, the darker the better. And when it can't be dark, I prefer muted light colors. I tend to not like white, gold, or other brightly colored dogs. So, for example:

Chessies, I like shades of brown (Abrams) and then if I had to have another color, it would probably be Deadgrass:

In Labradors, I like black and chocolate.

English Cockers, I prefer a solid colored dog, preferably black. If not black, then brown/liver/chocolate. Suprise! LOL:

In Aussies, red merles are my favorite.

English Shepherds, this type of sable:

Brindle Cardigans:

The traditional dark brown/black sable Bassets = my love.

And a nice dark fawn/red Frenchie with a black mask or dark brindle.

I like dark/almost black Malis. I really like black bi Aussies. Border collies are almost universally gorgeous, but I like blondes, sables & black tris with a good amount of irish white on them.

In general I tend to like colour on the face (no white around the eyes) with a nice symmetrical Irish spotting pattern (sorry Cobain and Rigby). But nothing in my life, right down to trying to do my make-up, is ever symmetrical :rofl1:

I pretty well like all Border Collie colours as long as they've got nice markings.

Current obsession is this dog though

Not totally in love with the red merles or liver...but still do like them.

I am a fan of red tri, and red dogs in general. I even prefer red merle, although merle is not among my favorite colors.

I'm a big fan of black and tan on any dog. I also like any form for tan or brindle points. :)

Favorite colors for my favorite breeds:

APBTs: black and tan, red and chocolate brindle, buckskin with black mask, most forms of liver.

Great Danes: Fawn with dark, dark mask, harlequin

Kelpies: black and tan

I just realized that the colors I like best in dogs is completely different from what I like in horses.

In dogs, I like some white and some pattern for the most part. A fawn dog with a black mask is nice, but not exciting to me.

In horses, I'm in love with bays, which is like the horse equivalent of a fawn dog with a black mask. I'm not a big fan of paint horses, though I love dogs with white.

I'm much more conservative with my favorite horse colors (dark solid colors), and more flashy with dogs for some reason.

I love black and tan dogs and generally prefer dark or well pigmented dogs, especially nice masking, eyeliner etc. Not a fan of white or piebald but I don't mind white feet or chest and patches/split faces are adorable. Brindle is growing on me but don't like merle and don't like super diluted coats.

I like sables, reds, or pie bald type patterns. Prefer white over black. Not a fan of black/tan or black/white combos. Dislike solid-colored dogs. Regular "tri" doesn't appeal to me.

That said, I obviously love Frag/Patton, my friend's all-black pittie, some rotty friends, cohen! :)
