Here's my rescued dog, Dexter. He should be about a year and a half and around 80 pounds or so. Extremely energetic. Gets along great with kids and women (deeply scared of men, but he was really traumatized when I got him). Not an ounce of aggressivity in him and adores other dogs.

I've had a few people guess about what could be in his mix, but I rarely get the same answers.

Thank you to those playing the guessing game. I've heard so many things from different people and I'm really curious.

Most people who tried guessing mentioned a part of Malamute. Husky seems to be fairly recurrent too. I've only heard Samoyed from one vet, which seems weird to me since it seems to be an obvious part of his mix (I know nothing about dogs though...Dexter is my first one).

I've also heard more than once he could have some Golden Retriever in him because of some colored spots (mostly around his ears). Even heard he could have some wolf in his mix (we are in a northern community and he was a wild dog before I got him) because of a really distinct v shape in his fur on his back.

He's quite big. I'm 5'10 and he can put his paws on my shoulders. Malamutes are also really common around here.

Here's the only picture I have of him before he was given to me. He was then slowly getting out from under a balcony where he hid for a month with his two brothers. His brothers don't look like him at all though, which might make breeds even trickier to guess?

Holy cow! What an awesome looking boy Dexter is! The second pic had me saying Malamute mix, with the third one I added Great Pyr, the next one I saw some Samoyed. So, as odd as it sounds, I'll guess Mal/Pyr/Sammie. There's something about the last picture that reminds me of our grand dog, Maggie. I think it's his face. She's supposedly a Siberian/Lab mix.

yeah, and that third brother...reminds me of a snowman...hmmm

:rofl1:

the others look black? Black is a really common "default" color when you mix breeds, so its not a surprise.

See? I didn't even know black was a default color!

And thanks, Micksmom. I brought him down to civilization with me this summer and we couldn't walk 10 minutes without being stopped. Especially with the backpack, people were really curious:lol And it's the first time I hear Great Pyr as a guess. I don't think they're very common as wild dogs here?

He's the best. I've seen him get bitten by another dog on the neck without retaliating while they tried many many families for his two brothers only to release them back to the wild because of their aggression.

Oh what a pretty sammy mix! Can I have him???

Samoyeds can be up to 70 lbs and some lines are more, especially if they are working/freight dogs.

Samoyed mix, maybe with Collie?
^^^ That's my guess .... either that or Great Pyr/Collie ... or maybe even Samoyed/Great Pyr/Collie for a trifecta? :)

The way he fixates his stare says "Rough Collie" to me ... also the thick longer coat, the slim muzzle, not as slim as a Collie, but slimmer than a Samoyed and much slimmer than a Great Pyr.

He's gorgeous ... and his temperament sounds soooo sweet.

<Ahem> ....ummmm ... can I haz? :D

Those are all good recurring guesses. I'm just not sure if Great Pyr or Collies are common or even possible as wild dogs in Nunavut? I mean possibly one got lost there somehow, but...who knows.

And I'm definitely keeping him:)

But, it is possible for that "wild" dog to breed with a domestic one.

Not being in your situation, I can't be 100%, but is it possible you're using the term wild when you mean feral? Wild would be like wolves, foxes, deer, etc. Feral would be a domestic breed or mix born in the wild or haivng been on it's own long enough to revert back to wild tendencies. I'm also wondering if the pups were simply a litter someone dumped. Whatever his background, Dexter is lucky to have you!
