To make an excruciatingly long story short, before Millie was born there were some problems with her mom, and at 10 years old I asked if there was even a tiny little millimeter's chance that the puppies would be okay. They were and for several reasons we picked Millie and named her that in honor of my prayer of a millimeter's chance.
I don't usually like really common names but I had for some reason thought the name Lucy was adorable. It was already on my "possible names" list before she came home. The day before we went and got her there there was a terrible case of a sweet little GSD puppy who was the victim of horrendous, unspeakable abuse, and died as a result of it. The rescuers named her Lucy before she died. The puppy touched my heart and sealed the deal; Lucy is also named in tribute to that puppy.
