Wait..
how do you go to washing your hair once or twice a week? I hear that people do that and I feel gross. If I go more than 24 hours my hair feels nasty. I wash my hair every day.
The problem with me is my hair is thin. I am not as young as you all are, so I will not post pics. I am 38. But I have thin hair. It used to come out in clumps but I stopped wearing a tight ponytail and I am not losing as much but I do not see much coming back in. I do lose some in the shower, but a fraction of what I was losing.
I would like it to be thicker. But I just cannot go more than a day, maybe 2 days.. but how do you not have nasty looking hair? None of you have dirty hair. What is the secret?
I have below shoulder length naturally curly hair. And I mean curly. If not brushed thru, it corkscrews if dried naturally. I do not blow dry my hair.
Personally speaking of course...others might have other input.
Once upon a time, I had extremely fine, limp, straight, stringy hair. And I washed my hair 2x a day, because there was nothing else I could do about it. It was just weighed down SO easily. I also dyed my hair frequently, because I am a redhead gone grey by 17.
In the last year, I have dropped the dye and gone strain-dye only like Manic Panic. I also switched to CO-washing, so I still get my hair wet every day when I shower, but I just run a 'cone-free conditioner through my hair instead of shampoo. Massage, condition, sit for 5 minutes, massage it out again. It is quite a harsh conditioner, maybe like a cream cleanser. And I actually use shampoo every 10-14 days. Before 'cone-free conditioner, it was about once a week. My hair likes silicone for the slip and de-tangling, but it is too heavy for my roots unless I try literally every conditioner on the shelves to find one that isn't so thick.
But the end result is I don't actually have fine or straight hair. I actually have quite textured wurly hair. Waves that tend to curl if I sleep on them. It explains a lot about my issues with my hair though, like why it tangles so easily, why it is so dry, etc, etc.
This is my hair journey since I started documenting it:
July - August - October - November
- I cut out my layers, bit my bit, to trim down the damage from bleaching on my length
- First dye was Manic Panic, second dye was Ion Brights, and third dye was an Auburn to tone it down for work
- When I cut out my layers, I went with a blunt cut at first, then it morphed into that catastrope that I JUST fixed. My hem-line is much more like it was in August now.
- I only have maybe an inch or two of bleach left on my ends. But my hair is growing so quicky it isn't actually much shorter than when I started.
- August texture is my regular wash-and-leave-it texture. I brushed it wet in the Oct pic and used a blowdryer in the Nov pic.
Other pics of wurls, curls, and red!
