After spending a week dogsitting a sheltie/border collie mix, my boyfriend has said "ONLY low/non-shedding dogs" in the future. That's fine by me. I love my poodles, but also really want to experience other breeds/mixes.

- I read over and over that wire-haired dogs do not really shed because the undercoat gets trapped under the wire coat. Is this true for all wire haired dogs or only some? Or only if they are stripped?

- When petting a wire-haired dog, will a pile of hair be left at the end?

- does clipping the coat rather than stripping it change the level of shedding??

- for those with wire-haired dogs: do you need to use a lint brush daily? Do you have to vacuum/sweep daily JUST for dog hair?

On a non-wirehaired note: for those with whippets/experience with whippets (short or long coat), how bad is their shedding??

Charlie was wirehaired with a very dense undercoat. He barely shed at all. Once every couple of weeks I'd rake out dead undercoat with a mars coat king, but that was the extent of all grooming and brushing.

Seamus was a wirehaired staghound with no undercoat. He shed a LOT due to bad food allergies, but once he was put on grain free his shedding went down to nothing within a couple weeks of the diet change.

Nog has a wire-type coat and is either non or very low shedding...I've never had hair come off when petting him, his sitting on my lap, etc.

I have 2 wired haired dogs and they don't really shed much. I mean Dixie gets black hairs all over since she is black but they aren't much of a shedder. Rudy my Airedale mix hardly needs groomed except his back end does need it time to time. but Dixie is groomed a lot since she is a Schnauzer mix and we don't want her ever getting matted. :)
