......away just by looking at them??

Today Orson heard neighborhood dogs barking and wanted the front door open (we also have a glass outer storm door) So I opened it for him to have a looky lou, he was being good, no barking or jumping, he just wanted to look around and see what all the fuss was about.

I look out the window and seen the reason for the neighbor dogs' outrage. There were 3 guys walking down the street putting those little door knob advertisements on everyones doors.

They get to our house and see big sweet Orson standing at the glass and start discussing who is going to take it up to our house (these are men, not kids) I had to giggle and tell my husband to watch...............Please know that Orson wasn't doing anything, just looking intently at them, no barks, no growls, no hair standing up.

Not one of the three would come up and put that advertisement on our door!! I could be missing the deal of a lifetime just because they were paranoid over a big whiney goofball that was behind glass no less!

On the other hand it could come in handy if word gets around :)

Please share your stories with me, I love to hear them!

You probably won't believe this, but Beau has terrified a friend of mine. He was just a puppy (about 6 months and 4-5 lbs) and he ran up to see her. She was over practising our clarinet quartet. Anyways, he ran up, tail wagging and excited and she screamed... So I put Beau in a pen and kenneled the other two dogs.

Beau's been to obedience since then, but still... to be scared of a papillon puppy was kind of odd. Apparently she hates dogs...

Dakota has the opposite problem - he looks soft and squishy and snuggly. People actually come up to our car and tap on the glass :yikes: when he's in there. He'll tolerate anyone right up against the car, but as soon as they touch the car they get a window full of teeth. It's like Jekyll and Hyde, this cute, sweet-looking dog suddenly becomes all teeth (and I honestly don't know how he fits all of them in his mouth!). He turns his display on and off in the blink of an eye, too, because as soon as the person takes their hand off the car, Dakota stops roaring.

Caesar, one of my previous foster dogs, was a very imposing-looking GSD. People would cross the street when they saw us coming, even though Cee was less likely to maul them than I was. :p

Yes, I couldn't imagine being scared of a pap puppy! Even if it ran up to me with teeth showing and growling...........4-5 pounds and all I would still have to say......AWWWWE how cute!

Hehehehe, ACooper.
I understand why they didn't want to approach your house to put the doorknob hanger on your door. They probably were afraid that Orson would break the glass in the door. :)

I also, as part of my job I serve process and warrants and citations and I can't tell you how many times my heart has lept out of my chest, approaching a door (with glass in it) with a big dog just sitting there and the instant I knock it literally launches itself onto the glass. There was one the other day behind a wooden front door that when the dog jumped on it the whole door FRAME moved. Haha, didn't take much notice that that dog does this all the time until he loosend the door frame! One dog I had as a kid DID go through the glass bottom of the storm door and cut her leg.

Riddick has that problem!

I've had people cross the street before to avoid him, even when he was still a puppy! He is 2 1/2 now but I was walking in the city with him recently and two men looked up, saw him and ran to the other side of the road. I thought maybe they just needed to go to a store on that side but as soon as we passed they crossed back. :lol-sign: I couldn't believe it. If they only knew Riddick would prefer to give them big dobie kisses not bites!

Oh, I bet that could be a scary job at times LTC.
I guess I find it funny because I know what a total whine bag Orson is, but I guess to a stranger he would look kinda scary, even just sitting with his tongue out :)

OMG riddick sounds like Orson so far, Mr. O is only 9 months, but he would much rather taste (by licking) you than bite you!!

When I take one of my kids to Petsmart, its always the mothers grabbing thier children and walking on the oppoisite side that we are on. Its a shame, because they really like children. *sigh* Some people will never learn. lol

Mr. O!

That is so funny! I always call Riddick Mr. R! or Sir. Please tell me that Mr. O has as much energy has Mr. R because I keep telling Riddick I can't wait until he calms down. I take him on my runs and we come back, he is still bouncing off the walls. I told him the other day 4 years old that's as old as you get to age, old enough for you to act mature but young enough to still go running. Have they found the puppy fountain of youth yet?

ACooper, not so dangerous where I live but then again most of the people aren't expecting a woman either and they open the door.:D
I'm more afraid of the untrained dogs than the people.

Orson's looks are doing the job even though he's not opening his mouth.lol! And that can be a good thing. Heck, I know one pizza man who delivered a pizza to us that was afraid of Bailey LOL because of his size and his bark he was taken aback by it but I understood it. :D Most just think, "Oh, Lassie" lol

Winston (Dobe) and Morgan (Rottie) both easily scare people simply by looking at them. They don't mean any harm, of course, but about 80% of people that see them are afraid and quickly go away. Tango also scares people away because of how intently she stares/looks at people.

Sunnierhawk0,

Can we please have a shirt made for dogs: Loves Children! or even Please Don't touch!(Depending on attitude) I've seen some parents act like you have experienced at petsmart and others who get mad when a dog growls at their kid for running up to quickly.

Ha! I don't know why exactly I call him Mr. O, ............Maybe it's because he looks so dignified in his black "suit"??? And OH YES energy galore! I have 5 kids ages 7-17 and he can tire them out one by one and still come to me for more!! You gotta love it!! (most of the time!)

The Fed Ex guy is mortified of Tosca. First time he came up the steps, she nearly went thru the screen door at him. She just doesn't like that guy. She LOVES the UPS guy. But there's something about the FED EX guy. He does look like Tobacco Road though. lol. So he won't come very close when he has a package if the inside front door is open. He rings the bell and runs when the door is closed.

I know what you mean, Riddick. I just don't understand the grey matter associated with a parent who tells their little kid, You Wanna Pet The Doggie? without asking YOU first. I mean, my dog loves kids, but mostly she loves to herd them and then knock them on their butts. I just don't get it. How would a parent like if a complete stranger walked up to their kid, picked him up and swung him around? It's kind of like that. Then they get ticked if the dog doesn't behave exactly like they *expect* a dog to behave when a complete stranger comes up to it.

LOL, I thought of you when I was starting to read this thead! I just imagined how people must generally react to filas. :D

My dogs are well behaved but I seriously DO NOT appreciate when it people come up and intrude upon their space and stick their face against theirs. . .it's ridiculous. . .they're asking for a bite. . .from me of course. ;) One man makes me grind my teeth because he will do just that and then get Millie to bark and then he will bark back at her. An idiot's reaction to a dog I am trying to desensitize (which he fully well knows but continues to disregard).
Millie and Lucy aren't scary but when I had the rotts I got filthy looks and mutterings of "monster", people crossing the street to get away from them, etc. etc. which on one hand makes me chuckle because I know Harley is completely harmless, but depressing and hurtful just because of BSL. . .it is getting more and more invasive and threating thoughts. . .people's reactions just represent all that crap.

Yes I think we DO need t shirts! LOL.

At the shows is where most people are more confortable, but sometimes they are a little TOO comfortable and I have seen kids just be turned loose to run around full speed in a crowded show. I think leashes need to be made for the kids, not the dogs! LOL

I once had a kid come up, ask to pet Spider, and I said yes of course. This little kid was just petting away and Spy was standing there like the great girl she is, the mother of this kid, who at the time wasnt paying ANY attention to her child, turns around and sees her child petting a *gasp* Rottweiler, comes over, snatches him up and says to me " How can you let children near a vicious dog like a Rottweiler!" ....... I look at her, tell her she is the reason there is such thing as BSL and since she is obviously too ignornant to know what that is, she can google it, if she isnt too ignorant to know how to work a computer. She stormed off, and Spider got alot of attention from a couple witinesses that watched the whole thing go down. LOL

All the time :) . I used to do the same thing you did with Orson (except when I open the door I am intentionally trying to keep people away). There ae people alwas trying to sell things and advertise in my neigborhood and it gets anoyng. I just open the door and let Cheko sit there. Although I stopped doing that because these stupid kids (teen boys) decided to come up to my door and tease him through the glass, the next thing I know Cheko is outside and the glass door no longer exists. My reflexes kicked in and was able to grab him before he got off the porch (dont know how I did that) but those boys were so scared, I think one p*ssed his pants. Oh well, shouldnt have been on MY property messing with my dog.
