The scariest thing ever would have to be when Sam and I were going for a jog. I know that Mastiffs aren't supposed to jog, but Sam loves it. So anyway, we are jogging and then all of a sudden, Sam stops. She just stops. I was like, what Sam, are you tired? and she wouldn't move. She sat down and her ears went waaaay up and I knew that she was listening. So all of a sudden she takes off, and she is sniffing in a bush. Then she starts barking really loud. So I was like, Sam, what's wrong? And I try to walk over to her and she stops me by barking REALLY loud. SO then I hear her growl, and then she picks up a knife from behind the bush and drops it at my feet. I put my gloves on, picked it up, put it in a doggie bag and dropped it in the garbage bag. So we continue. When we were exiting the park, we saw a man looking around in the bushes going, "Where is it"? "I thought I put it here...".

Scary!! I'm glad you found the knife before the other guy did!

Mine was scary in another way. I was walking with Phoebes next to a fast flowing river, and she all of a sudden took off and jumped right in. Bulldogs cannot swim as they are top-heavy, so I jumped in, clothes, shoes and all to rescue her. I cracked my knee on a rock, but because I was so determined I managed to catch up with her as she was bobbing down the river!! It was horrible, but all I could think of when I had got hold of her and was scrambling up the bank was "I hope no-one was watching", and luckily no-one was! I was sopping wet and it was really cold weather, and I squelched all the way home and must have looked a right sight to anyone walking past. To say nothing of my very painful knee. Anyhow, I think it taught her a lesson as each time we are near water she looks at me first before she goes in - she's only allowed in shallow water.

Sirius THAT is frightening. I don't think I would have ever walked there again lol.

I don't know if this counts as scary but it sure was painful lol. When we were staying at my dads house for a few weeks before I got the apartment, Teddy had to be kept on a long lead when we were outside because my dads fence was broken and there was a VERY busy street on the other side. So one day we were outside playing and he was running around as fast as he could and he hooked one of my ankles with his line and before I could even think about it it pulled my foot out from underneath me and I went RIGHT down into a full split. Now I have not done the splits in probably 8 years lol So needless to say I was in A LOT of pain. he knew he screwed up because he immediately came to me and started licking my face as if to say oh mommy I'm so sorry lol. That was three weeks ago and I am still sore. It all happened so fast but to me it seemed like slow motion as I was going down to the ground lol. That happened on a Friday and the next day I had to move all my funiture and boxes to my new apartment :|

Zeus has extremely high prey drive for small animals. The vet suspects he was being trained for hunting before I got him, but who knows? Anyway, I was walking him one night and we went over a bridge. The bridge goes over a dry ravine, maybe a 15-20 foot drop. I see something move in the streetlight at the bottom of the ravine. Hmm, raccoon. The next instant, Zeus is trying to fling himself over the side of the bridge. I'm wrestling with this dog, trying to get my arms around his body, and he's trying to break free and Superman off the bridge. The railing isn't very high, so I'm terrified that he's going over and I'll be knocked off with him. After a few moments that felt like hours, I finally get my dumb dog in some kind of weird leg-lock, and he gives up. I was sore the next day, but glad nothing worse happened.

Yikes. Are you afraid of heights at all? It doesn't sound like you are because you reacted pretty well I think. I think I might be a little afraid of heights after that :(

Fortunately I'm not scared of heights. But that scared the bejeezus out of me. Now when we walk over that particular bridge, we walk in the middle of the road and not the sidewalk by the edge. :D It's a very quiet road, so it's not a problem.

lol that sounds like a very good idea lol. I am pretty sure you could survive a 20 foot fall but you would probably be in a lot of pain and that would not be fun

we were at this park we go to that has trails miles back in the woods and we usually don't see anyone else back there. I saw this guy coming towards us and I could feel byron just tense,it was so weird because he is the happiest go lucky dog ever. I was going to try to calm him down but then I looked at the guy nad got mroe scared. He got closer and byron would have literally ate this guy if I would have let him. I don't have a single doubt this guy would have came after me if byron wouldn't have went off right then. I shook the whole way back to the car and that was the first night he got to stay out and he has only been back in his cage maybe twice since then :p It took a while for me to go back on walks by myself but I still don't go that far back anymore. I don;t know if he read the person coming at us or me but he did it somehow. We were at a party at my frineds the other night and one of her frineds friends was completely drunk, throwing chairs in the fire, etc and byron did the smae thing. I thought we were ging to have to tie this guy down and call the cops but him and his friend sleft. Did I ever say I hate drunks

The most exciting moment we've had was probably one of the times we chased down a deer and bit it on its leg.

It was pretty funny, my pup chasing a deer and me behind him flying on the lead.

Got the deer by the leg but it escaped in the forest =(

Otherwise id have a nice bbq.

I've had 3.... but then I'm Grammy . First was many years ago before seat belts. I had 3 kids and 2 two dogs in station wagon ....lived in country and went to country store to buy some screws. Only other store was a gas station across the street. I ran in asnd as I was paying, the gas station owner ran in and said my dog was choking ! Rufus had his head out the rear window and one of the kids turned the key and put up the window.!! I paniced as I couldn't remember which was up or down ! ( old model ). Luckily I did the down.! The other 2 had to do with chain collars. Once a dog's tooth when playing got caught in his sister's collar...both paniced until I got there. Another time the O link went into a patio crack and got caught....again glad I was there. I NEVER leave a chain link collar on a dog !!!!!

Oh so many advenutres to choose from! LOL I already talked about my human-related ones in another post so I'll talk about animal-related ones.

I was cutting through a path that goes behind an MCC thrift store and past a baseball diamond to get him and there's some pretty dense greenery on one side and scattered trees on the other with houses behind them. OC has a knack for doing a ballerina-style graceful pounce into shrubbery when he hears something scittering (usually mice) and then he'll emerge with his kill in his mouth (this pounce is exactly like a coyote's). Well he did this and I was like "Aw geeze what'd you get this time?" and he suddenly pokes back up with ears pricked and searching eyes (meaning he lost what he was after and is looking for where it went to try again). Suddenly through the weeds I see a flash of balck and white and out emerges a skunk with his back flipped up and over and teeth already chattering (major warning signals of a spray to come!). I was like "oh ****!!!!!" and ran outta there as fast as I could practically jerking OC off his feet in the process as he tried another attempt at catching his new0found prey! Luckily we managed to escape the spray but man was it a close call!

with quigley, the scariest thing ever was when i found he had chewed the TV power cable in two - while it was plugged in. the goof could have killed himself.

with my dachshund it was her chasing a fox into its den and not coming out for two hours. i can't blame her, that's what they are bred for and it's in her blood, but it wasn't fun to wait and hear both the fox and the dog growl and yip at eachother - while standing around in the pouring rain.

with my great dane, it was a confrontation with an escaped mental hospital patient. the guy had himself set up near a popular park trail and was pelting anyone who walked by with rocks - people, kids, dogs, horses...

i let my dane off leash and he tackled the guy. someone else had already called the police and they arrived to collect him shortly after.

There was another time when we had just taken teddy for a swim and we were going for a long walk afterward and we encountere a groundhog and Teddy pulled the leash a tiny little bit and it popped off lol. I don't know how it came unclipped but it did. He kinda took off after the groundhog and the ground hog started running away which got him even more interested but he was still a little aprehensive lol. the groundhog ran down into some bushes and Teddy was just about to go down into them too but then thought better of the idea lol. He decided to back off and come back to continue his walk lol. I was afraid the ground hog was gonna turn around and bite him lol. or that he would jump down into the bushes and he'd never get out lol.

I'd have to say my scariest was just a few weeks ago, we went to town and had left two adult bitches in house together (they have always got along) when we got home and came in house only Minka came to greet us! I called for Nanette and she didn't come, kept calling no Nanette - I had this terrible feeling Minka killed her or she bloated and died or something - panic makes you think crazy thoughts :(
Nanette had knocked the baby gate down and went down stairs into the basement and couldn't get back up the gate was blocking her
Thank God she was ok just a bit scared.

that would have to be when a dog was just bounding upto mine asthough they were going to play, but insted it just attacked her, i had no hesitatin in kicking that dog to get it off her even though its owner was looking on, probarbly not sutch a good idea because then it turned on me, its owner came just strolling over like it wan't a big deal and just pulled the dog away by the collar, not asking how we were or anything, i was too bothered about getting tess to the vets than stopping them, she just needed her wounds on the back of her neck cleaning up, once i knew she was OK that i got to go to the hospital to check out a wound i had on my leg, the worst part was for a long time after that she was nervous of dogs about her size or bigger and she still dosn't have the same level of confidence with other dogs now even though it has been a couple of years since, though she is nearly there with our fearless new puppy showing her there is nothing to be scared of and giving her a whole new lease of life :D
