So yesterday Steve and some friends and I decided to go fishing. I don't fish but it's nice to get outside and socialize... Anyway they caught two sockeyed salmon and steve took the smaller one home. By the time he got home he didn't even want to eat the salmon. So we gave it to the dogs. They love salmon and eat it whenever I can afford it but last night it did not sit well. I think they ate too fast and didn't chew enough or something. Because Maverick threw up too large piles of salmon last night while we were sleeping. It was SO gross because then the other two were slurping it up. And I hate the smell of fish. I never liked it before I was vegetarian. Especially salmon! But my bedroom now smells like fish and puke. So I clean it up as best as possible and then Nanook pukes in the living room!! So I go to put them outside and Cody the unneutered male dog was standing at my backdoor. Thankfully Nanook is always the last to go out. So steve has to fix the hole and put cody away while I surpervise my dogs in their potty break and Mikey pukes. And loves to re-eat it but I dragged him away because I didn't want to find it in the house later.

I tried to febreeze everything but then my room smelled like salmon, febreeze and fish farts. So I woke up all night everytime I smelled a stinky fart because I thought one of the dogs needed to potty desparately. They were ok. Just had stinky gas. What a night!

I was going to post pics of the river and fish but I really don't want to right now.

Saje...are you aware that raw salmon can kill dogs? It's called Salmon poisoning in dogs and it's VERY fatal. A lot of people don't know about it, so I just thought I would mention it. I live in Oregon and when I worked in the vet clinic we saw it all the time. I would watch your dogs very closely from here on out for signs of illness or take them to the vet for preventative treatment! Here is a link, check it out!

Sorry to dampen the fun! Sounds like you had an adventure LOL!! :D

Thanks Showdog. I'm pretty sure that's the same thing that Mordy pointed out to me before when I was thinking about feeding raw. They all seem to be fine now. I'll keep an eye on them of course but they aren't sick and they are all back to normal today. If anything changes I'll call our vet. Thanks Showdog.

You are welcome. I would hate for them to become ill and just wanted you to know about it along with everyone else. It's such a sad illness and reminds me a lot of Parvo in it symptoms. Watch them close for the next week and if ANYTHING seems abnormal then tell your vet right away that they got a hold of raw salmon. Glad to hear that they are back to their normal selves today!!!

I decided to email our Ministry of Environment and ask them if there is a lot of that parasite in this area. I hope the answer is no!

But yeah, they all seem normal. :D

I hope the answer is no too! I am sure they will be fine, but like I said, watch them closley over the next week. Sometimes it takes that long for symptoms to show up. Aren't dogs fun....
