I was wondering if anyone has their dog on Wellness. I ran out of food last night and I have been thinking about changing Dukes food cause he was on food that wasnt good but last night I went out to grab something to just tide him till today I went to the cornor store and all they had was DogChow. I bought it but once I did and was driving home I couldnt bring myself to make him eat that. So I stopped into the dog store which has alot of natural foods and well I dont know much about food so I was reading the ingredients and figured this would be a good choice to go with. Is this brand of food any good? He seemed to take to it right away but he does that anytime there is a change to food. The ingredients are as followed,

Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal, Oatmeal, Ground Barley, Salmon Meal (natural source of DHA), Canola Oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols, a natural source of vitamin E), Ground Brown Rice, Rice Bran (from brown rice), Tomatoes (natural source of lycopene), Natural Chicken Flavor, Rye Flour, Ground Millet, Flaxseed, Carrots, Apples, Spinach, Blueberries, Sweet Potatoes, Potassium Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Dicalcium Phosphate, Zinc Sulfate, Zinc Proteinate (a chelated source of zinc), Iron Proteinate (a chelated source of iron), Ferrous Sulfate, Copper Proteinate (a chelated source of copper), Copper Sulfate, Manganese Proteinate (a chelated source of manganese), Manganese Sulfate, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite, Choline Chloride, Beta-Carotene, Vitamin E Supplement, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin A Supplement, Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin, Vitamin D-3 Supplement, Pyrodoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin K Supplement, Vitamin B-12 Supplement, Chicory Root Extract, Garlic, Taurine, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Green Tea Extract, Lactobacillus plantarum, Enterococcus faecium, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus acidophilus.
Old Mother Hubbard uses ethoxyquin-free meat sources.

We had really bad diarrhea probles with Wellness puppy food. We switched to Canidae suddenly (no gradual change) and he hasn't had any problems.

Wellness is an OK food but it is horribly overpriced. Have you tried Canidae? Innova? Solid Gold? Eagle Pack?

I'm with Herschel.

For weeks, maybe even months since they changed their formulas, Roxy either refused to eat it and she had chronic diarrhea. A few times a week.

We made the cold turkey switch to Eagle Pack, even with canned food, and we haven't had ANY diarrhea problems since. :)

I havent tried the other food, like I said I just ran out of food and had to grab something. I didnt find it to be overly priced for what I was paying for. But I will look out for the diarrhea. Thanks for a heads up. All these other foods I have never even seen in stores. But then again I might not have really even been looking that hard.

Wolfie was on Wellness puppy and had to go get SubQ fluids at the vet from so much diarrhea and dehydration. He loved the food but it caused MASSIVE, loose stools 4-5 times a day!!!!! :yikes: I wouldn't recommend this food if my life depended on it.

My chihuahuas actually had awful diarhhea while on Innova, so I switched them to Wellness and it completely cleared up. They are on Timberwolf Organics now, which is a higher quality and they are doing great. Different foods work for different dogs, it is all about what your dog does best on. Like I said, mine did great while on Wellness, but horribly while on Innova.

Which formula of Wellness did they do well on? Because I think the problem was mostly with the chicken based formulas :)

Madison was on the Super5Mix Chicken for a while, and Rylie was on the Simple Food Solutions (venison/duck). I also put my foster chihuahua I had last year onto the Super5Mix puppy, and Chloe was on the same for a while as well.

I can see that most had the same problem with diarrhea. So now Im gonna watch and if he ends up with it and it doesn clear in 2 days. Thats usually how long it takes for his body to regulate after I change his food. Then I'll take him off it cause by the sounds of it its not gonna clear up if he stays on it. Fingers crossed it works. I've change his food this will be the 4th time in just under 5 months for different reasons.

Wellness products took a turn for the worse after their "reformulation", the new version really is a downgrade that no longer justifies the price.

It certainly is better than Nutro et al, but there are better products on the market, many of them less pricy.

So Duke is being taken off of wellness just as fast as he went on. He has had severe diarrhea since he went on it friday. He was only on for 1 day and his system wont clear itself up. He cant even hold it in. Thank god for a carpet cleaner. So tomorrow he is going to the vet cause there has been some blood in his stole. He's to him getting better and fast.

So once again, "Have you tried Canidae? Innova? Solid Gold? Eagle Pack?"

Your vet is probably going to give you Hill's i/d, then tell you that you should be feeding Science Diet.

Since I discovered Wellness switched formulas, I began using Canidae. It's a wonderful food if it's not too rich for some dogs systems. Some dogs just don't seem to tolerate it too well. I keep hearing very positive things about Eagle Pack, though, so I might just have to check that out.

Since I dont know how to quote Ill just answer Herschel's question. No I have not tried any of those foods. I went to the store and was going to buy Eagle Pack cause I didnt know what else to get when the guy suggested Performatrin. Which also looks like a half decent food. So I'm gonna try this out and go from there. I have never seen anything like this caused by food. Its been almost 3 days since Duke has been taking off of the Wellness and he still has severe diarrhea. He has an appointment at the vet tonight so hopefully she can suggest something to ease his stomach. I feel so bad for him.

Performatrin Ultra puppy has lamb as the first ingredient and lamb meal as the second, as well as menadione. If Eagle Pack is available to you, why not go with Eagle Pack holistic select, as the first ingredient is lamb meal.

So Duke went to the vet yesterday and now he's on meds for 5 days plus some food from the vet until his stool goes back to normal. I will never recommend Wellness to anyone. I wont even give the full back of food I have of it to anyone. Just going to throw the bag out. Once I get the results back from the fecal exam to rule out completely anything and to be 100% that it was from the food. Then I will be reporting it to OMH's customer service.
