Watson finished his championship this weekend with 16 points. So proud of him! It was a pretty big show for Welshies, so there were a lot of breeders and friends around to congratulate us, which was fun. His breeder was there too with his sister, and the primary owner of his mother (his mom wasn't there because her owner missed the entry deadline). He showed really well and took Best of Winners on Saturday (for a 4 point major) and Winners Dog on Sunday (for 2 points). He lost Best of Winners to his sister, so at least the judge was consistent with her picks. By Sunday afternoon he was kind of fussy and done with the whole show thing and it took forever to take a pic with the judge (he kept trying to sit, or move his feet), but overall he was a good boy.

Our first show was last May, and our first point was mid-June, so I'm really proud of how far we've come in just a year of showing. I'm not sure how much I'll special him ... I think I might dabble, but doubt I'll do it seriously. He's also a bit young to compete with the other males in our region, but maybe in a few years he'll be there. He got some really nice compliments from breeders at the show, and one breeder/judge said Watson is the nicest young male he's seen in a long time. I do plan to show him at Nationals next year and while I don't think we'll do anything in the breed ring, it will be fun to give it a shot.

Here are some pics my husband took on Sunday. The first is Watson facing off against his sister, Tessa, in the BOB ring. The second two are awkward family photos. He just wanted to lay down, so I had to keep propping him up. He's making very unhappy faces in both pics. :lol-sign::

And some I took when we got home, showing off Watson's new toy that he very much earned:

Thanks everyone! I'm lucky to have such a pretty dog who really shows off in the ring. Goodness knows we didn't win anything because of my handling skills.

Now I'm trying to decide if I want to special him ... I think I might dabble and see how it goes. I don't like showing enough to keep doing it if we're not getting any points, especially once we're focusing more on performance. I'm also living and working 2 hours away every week day for 10 months, so I don't think I'll be entering many (any?) shows for a while.

Congrats! Always nice to hear about other owner/handlers doing well with their dogs :) Barrett got his first 2 AKC points this past Saturday, along with a BOB.. I was rather shocked LOL.

You can always show in the breed ring just for fun and experience whenever you get a chance, plus you'll be going for his GRCH now, which is always nice. If in a year or so he's super nice, you can get more serious about it. That's my plan with Barrett at this point (he's just 9 months old though). Just wait and see how he matures then go from there!

Wow, that's awesome! What a showing! Watson's half sister took BOB at 9 months a couple weeks ago and I couldn't believe it. The most we've ever gotten is a hard look in the BOB ring, but it was against the two nicest males in my region, so I'll take it!

My drive to get his GCh will depend completely on how well he does. It's addictive when you're doing well and earning points, but my desire to go to shows falls off a lot when we don't win. :lol-sign: I've had enough compliments on him though that I think it's doable. I just need to buckle down and actually train him for the breed ring, and brush up my grooming skills a bit I think. He knows the drill for the most part, but my handling could use work, and it would be nice if he could free stack. In motion he looks wonderful, but stationary he's a bit blah (standing around is boring, don'tcha know). He's been extremely slow to fill out compared to other lines, so waiting until he's 4 or 5 might make things a lot easier. He still looks a bit skinny and slab sided right now (though so much improved from 6 months ago)

Good luck with Barrett! Did you get a picture with the judge? I got one for our first point, and one this weekend. I meant to get one for our first major, but there were too many vizslas still in the ring and I was exhausted.

I showed the FB pictures to Ben yesterday and said, "this is Hudson's friend Watson. You know his owner" He goes, 'I don't think I do.' I've never claimed he was observant......

I am so happy you're doing so well with him, he is just a cool dog <3 Congrats
