My sister's kitten, Aubrey, is very sick. She's 8 months old, tiny as heck (4.8 pounds) and after a bout of lethargy, was diagnosed at the vet as having an infection, fever, anemia, and a heart murmer. She was sent home with meds and Felivite, but she is still throwing up and refusing most food. She's going back to the vet for an overnight round of IV antibiotics and nutrition. She just seems to be having issues thriving at the moment.

She's a stoic little kitten, but I worry nonetheless because she is my sister's kitten and she is so sweet. Vibes that she starts thriving soon? Her brother Floyd needs his sister to be healthy.

What a little beauty. Many vibes that she's feeling better soon. When they're that little, you can't help being super worried. But cats are tougher than you'd think; I so hope she'll be back to her bright-eyed self in a day or two.

She has tested positive for Feline Coronavirus, and shows all symptoms of FIP, a rare mutation of coronavirus that is incurable and fatal.

Vibes needed more than ever.

I'm afraid things are not good. Quoting her:

Aubrey's home, curled up on my lap, as comfortable as she can be right now, sleeping mostly quietly. We have the new antibiotics and a couple of syringes of anti-inflammatory for her, as well as some high-fat 'critical care' food. She's had just a few nibbles of the food and refused Felivite again.

We'll know in the next few days. If the antibiotics and anti-inflammatory don't help, there is nothing more that can be done. The fever is still raging. She looks terrible, like a skeleton wearing fur (with a shaved spot on her belly from the ultrasound). Every so often she perks up and grooms herself a little, then goes down again. When she's sleeping, she twitches and jerks awake at every unfamiliar noise. It doesn't help that Floyd still wants to wrestle with her; she's too weak to get away from him.

It's really looking like we're close to the end, here. Barring a miracle, we'll probably be making a tough decision early next week.

I'm devastated for her. Aubrey is -her- kitten.

Miracle vibes?

(((((((((((MIRACLE VIBES)))))))))))))))

:( Praying for a miracle here. I'm so sorry for Aubrey, and especially for your sister. That has to be SO hard to watch. I remember when I thought Chloe wouldn't live another few minutes, and it was.....not sure heartbreaking is strong enough. I didn't know how my life would be without her, and I'm so, SO thankful that I don't have to find out just yet. I hope your sister doesn't either. Aubrey seems like such a great kitty.

Okay so.

You know how we needed a miracle?

We may, may, maaaaaaaaaaay have one.

A few days later, Aubrey is acting much more like a kitten again. She is eating regular meals (though smaller quantities than they'd ideally like), playing a bit more, grooming herself, chirruping, and otherwise not acting very sick at all.

She is NOT out of the woods, but I don't need to tell you guys what good of a sign this is. I think on Thursday my sister was thinking they'd have to make the Hard Decision by today. So.

MOAR CHAZ VIBES. She is convinced they are helping, and so am I!

Cute Facebook status from sis this morning:
Mixed emotions: when the kitten who was near death a few days ago wakes you at 04:30 excitedly playing with (and chirping at) a dustbunny.

Massive amounts of vibes!

How is she doing?
About the same! She hasn't gone any more downhill, but she's still not at the level of energy and eating that they (and the vet) would like. Apparantly with initial treatment, symptoms of FIP can disappear entirely for a small time, making the cat appear healthy for awhile. x__x So they really, really don't know, and time will tell. Right now though, she's at least acting a happy healthy kitten, and they are thankful for that. She's being spoiled rotten and loving life right at this moment. Time will tell for the rest.

All the vibes are appreciated! Sis knows I made this thread and thanks you all, as well!

ETA: I'll keep giving you guys cute kitten photos in exchange for vibes. Here are Aubrey and her brother Floyd grooming.

All that can be done has been done... she cannot eat or even swallow water. She is skin and bones.

They are taking her in to be helped to pass tomorrow morning.

Please send good thoughts their way.
