Some one please help. My dog had just gotten its first shots and i found out she had worms. So the doc. gave me pyrantel. After about a day and a half my dog wasnt really eating or very active. So by the third day she wasnt eating and she vomitted once. And on the fourth day she could not put any food or water down with out it coming right up. And today is the fifth day and nothing has changed. The water just takes about 5 minutes to come back up and i tryed to force her to eat and she just puked it up a couple hours later and it didnt look like she had digested any of it. Is there something i can do at hope to help my poor baby with out getting an outragious vet bill. Please this is urgent!!!!!!

If you cant afford it, why did you get him in the first place? And if you're not willing or just cant pay... I don't know what to say.

Do you have an emergency clinic youcould take her to? She really needs to be seen by a vet. Especially since this is 5 days in with her not feeling well. If she's not been eating or drinking that is going to cause some serious problems. Is she dehydrated? Look at the color of her gums... they should be a nice pink color.. not white. Pull up her fur on the back of her neck or her back and let it go... if it stays in a tenting position and takes a while to lay flat then that's a pretty good sign she's dehydrated. Is she still peeing?

Something is obviously going on with her and if it were my dog I'd be on the phone until I found a vet that was open that could see her today. Better to be safe than sorry.

I hope everything is okay with her... let us know how she does. Maybe someone else will have better advice than me. I know vet bills can be outrageous at times.. but unfortunately it's part of being a pet owner. We have to provide care to them.. especially when they are sick. You would never forgive yourself if you denied her being seen by a vet due to cost and something happened to her. Maybe you could work out some kind of payment plan with the vet. I've been in the same situation with money many times... but somehow I always managed to find a way. GOODLUCK.

Not trying to sound harsh but as soon as he/she stopped eating and drinking water you should've called the vet right then and there.

I'm not trying to scare you, but do you realize how dangerous this could be for your dog. You can go a while without food... but you MUST have water for survival. When you get dehydrated it will mess up your electrolytes. And potassium is one of the electrolytes and in case you didn't realize it... potassium plays a large role in the heart. People, dogs, cats... etc.... can and will die from dehydration if untreated. And the dehydration may only be a secondary problem to what ever is going on with your pup. What you described in your thread is NOT normal and needs to be looked into. I would have called the very same day she showed signs of a problem... she's depending on you to take care of her. PLEASE call your vet and find out what's wrong with her. If you wait... it might be to late.

try taking a small pinch of skin between your thumb and finger..if it stays up or goes down slowly your dog is in dire need of a subcontanious iv. This is not a difficult procedure, but you will need a vet. It is just a guess but if your puppy's abdomen feels hard and is distended it might be a hard blockage of roundworms or tapes. You will need your vet if that is the case. It won't come out on it's own. If you do not want to leave your pup there and get the cost of this as well as leaving him alone in a cage, ask you vet to show you how to do the procedure. It is not hard. If you dont your pup will soon die. I am sorry for your worries and if this is your first dog maybe you thought the puppy would get better. Something i think a few members didn't realize is how many people do think there will be a turn around by the next day. I hope your pup recovers and am sorry for all your worries.
If your puppy is still able to receive a subcontanious iv what i would do afterwards is put him/her under your shirt and against your belly to help warm that fluid up to body temp. It makes them terribly cold, but the body will aborb the fluid slowy much like a camel's hump will work. This will allow the vet to treat what ever is causing the blockage or problem if i am guessing wrong.

In my post where I said they shouldve called right then and there: what I was referring too was when I took Chloe to get her shots my vet told me to specifically to look for those signs and if they did occur to come back right away. I was thinking that maybe the vet should've told them the same thing. But I do hope that the puppy is ok.

not directed at you dear Jess..most vets won't worm for tapes without watching for a blockage and i have seen round worms that are in anstonishing amounts come from very little babies. A handful out of a 3 day old pup.and she was lucky enough to vomit them up .which is why ALL DOGS SHOULD BE WORMED AND HAVE A CHECK UP BEFORE BREEDING!!!!!! sorry to yell it is an issue with me...i just feel so sad for dear little baby, what should have been a proper start is a bad conclusion. Obviously the neglect started before this person obtained the pup. There are a few old school vets out there that will "kill a fly with a baseball bat" and that is just not good. I hope that this will let future puppy owners know to read a lot before they obtain their future dog.BE careful not to support back yard breeders..ask as to the condition of the mother before she was breed..did she see a vet? ask for proof. To check up on their vet, and compare with their neighbors as to a good recomendation of a good vet that is local. Like all docs, some are life savers and others..well are not.

one of my rotties got a hold of a corn cob and it blocked her intestine. She began to vomit and vomit until she was vomiting bile. She too was lethargic and unable to keep anything down. I brought her to the vet immediately that next day when she did not turn around after a good night's rest. And thank God I did.. because she would have died the vet told us. She had to have emergency surgery and it cost me nearly 1000 dollars before all was said and done, but it was worth it. Who would have thought a corn cob would do that... I don't even know where she got it.. I guess the trash barrel. Has she had any bowel movements at all since her symptoms started? I know she won't be having a lot of them since she isn't eating but she still should have had something in her belly that needed to pass through prior to her acting sick. You're vet will want to know the last time she had a bowel movement or when she peed last as well as the last solid food she held down and what she's been able to drink and hold down. I really hope you've been able to find a vet to look at her. Keep us posted on her condition.
