Should a 7-8 week old kitten (maybe younger - Im not to good with kitten ages) be all by themselves hanging around a Tomcat....

The reason I ask, is because this morning I went out to have a smoke, and there was a little kitten following around the neighbors cat (male NOT neutered) and I tried to get the little kitten to come to me, and I thought it was going to but as soon that the adult cat started walking off the kitten ran and followed him...

Im going to try to catch the kitten and see what I can do....

Well it is kind of odd, and you are POSITIVE that the tom cat really is a TOM cat right?

I would get this kitten away from him soon especially if it is a female, when she gets 4-5, 6 months he will really be hanging around her :)

Well, I am positive that it is a intact male cat :) and I haven't seen any other kittens around my neighborhood  this is the first one I have seen and it was following him around...I'm going to try to find it today...and maybe get a pic or two....

ROFL! Jess, be careful. They creep into your heart. No she shouldn't be alone. Ironically, I found one at my front door last night! She's here right now. It's my guess the kit is still around. If you want to track her, put some food where you saw her last. She may return. My guess she is recently weaned and very hungry. If you can get her, you can always bring her to a shelter if you don't want her yourself. That's far better than leaving her out there to either get killed, or just as bad, grow up and breed. She' obviously old enough to get around so she could probably avoid a Tom by hiding out. Normally, Toms are more apt to kill younger unweaned kits. And not all toms do that either. I once saw a tom letting a kit try to nurse off him, believe it or not. At this point, I would be betting the kit is still around, and probably some siblings. I would worry more about nourishment right now than a tom cat. It's highly possible the little thing is watching the area for some viddles.

Edit: OK I need more coffee. She is hanging out with a tomcat. lol. I would say she is in NO danger with him then. There might be a bond there in fact, so don't worry. She's a bit old for a Tom to kill. Maybe it's the neighbor's kitten? Is this possible?

well Jess, if the kit was traveling with your neighbor's adult cat, they knew one another, so maybe it belongs to your neighbor?

That was the first time I had ever saw the kitten and haven't seen it since...I would hope it wasn't theirs.....but anyhoo, maybe it was someone else's...
