For my male beagle, is there anything I should be looking out for with his...you know...doggie privates? Are there any physical signs that I should be aware of? This is my first time having a male dog. I have noticed on a couple occassions of some milky-white residue on the tip. I figured it was perhaps a result of excitement?!? HA!

Any thoughts would be welcome?

There may be some whitish or yellowish discharge occasionally on the tip of his sheath, but that's just normal intact male stuff. You may want to keep a box of kleenex handy if you don't want it on your furniture.

Just for the record, I don't make a habit of looking at my male dogs "parts". Now if it were hanging out and he couldn't get it back in...I would be concerned.

Sometimes there's just a little infection with this..my male intact dogs had this , but Chip has never had it...could be the neutering ?? Also, if your dogs un -neutered , make sure both testicals have decended.

There's nothing wrong with that unless there's infection causing it. Dogs usually lick themselves -- that's their way of giving themselves a bath. And if a human guy COULD do it... he WOULD!

Intact male beagles have a high incidence of testicular cancer. If you're not keeping him to breed, I'd suggest having him neutered not only for his health's sake, but for the sake of his potential puppies who will add to the dog population problem.

And yes, the discharge is icky. As long as he doesn't have an infection, it's also perfectly normal. :)

Well bless your heart!! Hmm...in that case, I might call my vet, just to be on the safe side. Without testicles, he shouldn't be producing any discharge. It could just be lymph, but it could also be pus. You don't have to spring for the vet visit quite yet. Call first, talk to the vet, and see if you can get any freebee hints out of him. :)
