Gavroche and Logan got their Collar Mania collars today. Pics coming, I promise ;) I just need to get somewhere where there's good internet.

Honestly? I'm less than impressed. Maybe my expectations were too high, hearing all the good reviews of Collar Mania. But they're just not as awesome as I imagined. They're buckle martingales, and I requested nickel/plastic hybrid buckles, and these are just plastic buckles. I also ordered Gavroche's satin-wrapped instead of satin-lines, and his is lines instead of wrapped. Now, I can see how wrapped may not work for this collar, but I would at least have liked to have been told that ahead of time, so I could expect it. I would prefer the chains be a little longer, too, but then the collar wouldn't be as adjustable. And then of course the website said all orders before November 28th would be shipped to arrive before Christmas...I ordered mine November 26th and they didn't get here until today.

I don't think I'll be ordering another Collar Mania collar again. It's just not worth it :( They're pretty and all, it's just not what I expected.

I look forward to the pictures :)

And did you express these concerns to Collar Mania and give them a chance to explain/correct anything? Just wondering. As someone who's sold things on Ebay (not the same as a collar business, but still...) I always appreciate the opportunity to make it right BEFORE I am criticized publicly. *shrugs*

I don't know what Collar Mania Collars even are, but I'm sorry you are disappointed, I'd love to see a pic when you get them uploaded.

x2.
Please contact Lisa if you are unhappy with your collars. I am 100% POSITIVE she will go out of her way to make them right for you.
Things get hectic over the holiday season, and when you're custom making things, sometimes mistakes can happen.
Please give her chance to make things right for you.:D

I'd 3rd contacting Lisa, she was really nice to me when I've ordered collars from her (hasn't been for a few years though). I do know she was really sick for a few weeks - posted on FB.

Can't wait to see pictures though!

Too, it may have been shipped to arrive before Christmas, but that doesn't mean the shipping company/postal service didn't drop the ball on their end of it.

By all means, contact her. Everything I've seen and heard previously makes me think she'll address your concerns.

Hi...this is Lisa from Collar Mania and others have said if you are less than happy I am more than willing to work with you.

On the delivery date issue I came down with a severe case of the stomach flu and could not work for 6 days at all and the next 2 were less than full production as I had not eaten anything other than crackers for 5 days and was severely dehydrated. Anyone who knows me knows I have to be REALLY sick to not work. I did my best to catch up but unfortunatley some collars did not get out in time.

The type of collars you requested would not have worked with the satin wrap as the would have been too thick to adjust and you did order one of them with a satin strip lining. Also, I have no control over the length of the chains as that is they way they are made, I do not make them I just buy them.

In regards to the buckle, my assistant sewed them so if she put the wrong one on there I apologize and again I am happy to fix it. These collars are just 1 ribbon collars so there is not much I can do to make them any thicker or sturdier and I am limited by the type of buckle you chose and the amount of space needed and with the fact that they need to be not to thick so you can adjust them.

Please email me if you would like me to change out the buckle and if not I am happy to give you gift certificate for a furture purchase as an apology for the mistake and not getting them there in time for Christmas.

Honestly in the Collarmania collars I own I would never complain they are not sturdy. They may appear less bulky than my StillWaterKennelSupply 4 ply nylon collars but I have some wicked pullers and I have yet to run into an issue.

It's fair to take issue with a collar but I would recommend contacting small business owners first as their word of mouth is their main business.

I know Lisa will fix things for you, she's gone above and beyond to help me (a small buyer from her) pick fabrics that she didn't carry and make styles I desired.

Looking forward to seeing your collars, I'm sure they're awesome :)

First off, I want to apologize for not contacting you directly first, Lisa. I just got off work and I admit I was tired and cranky and going into sensory shutdown. I've rested and recovered (mostly) and am in a much better mood now. Had the mailman come before my lunch break was over, this post would probably not be here, and I would have been in a much better mood when I got them.

Anyway, I want to than you for coming here to try to sort things out. I really, REALLY appreciate it. It definitely goes a long way towards showing what kind of person you are and how much you care about your business. Sometimes I forget how far-reaching Chaz is; I'm used to tiny little forums that are barely a blip on the map, and don't realize Chaz pops up search results somewhere on the first page for pretty much anything dog-related.

Rest assured, sturdiness is not an issue in the least, and I'm sorry if it came across that way. Aside from the buckles, they seem super sturdy, with all metal hardware. They are heavy in my hands when I hold them, which is unlike any collar I've handled before (and a GOOD thing! My dogs are big, they can take the weight). I understand abotu the wrapping and the chains. Like I said althoguh it would be nice to have a longer chain, if it were any longer it would reduce the adjustability of the collars. They're already less adjustable than standard collars (because they're sewn over more than the tiny little bit most collars are...if that made any sense) so that's not something I'd want to do. On reflection, less chain is actually a good thing for Logan at least. I remember when he went with me when I saw Les Mis, the collar jingled a couple times when he shifted because there was a lot of chain slack in his martingale. With less chain there's less jingle, so I don't have to worry about repositioning everything once he's settled in a quiet setting. And like I said after looking at the mechanics of the collars, I understand how silk-wrapped is not practical or possible in this case. Gavroche's collar is still pretty smooth on the inside, which is my main concern with his skin. Logan's has a couple pokey pieces, but he has a nice thick coat to pad it so it's not something I'm concerned about.

And don't get me wrong, they are gorgeous collars. I know Logan's colors are without a doubt red and black, and I've been searching for a Celtic scroll or know for him. I was hesitant to put Gavroche in anything other than black and white or black and silver, but thanks to Chewbecca and all of Luke's colorful collars, I decided to go with the green/brown/blue, and I don't regret it. It looks great on him. White dogs really can rock anything ;)

Lisa, I will be emailing you about the buckles when I can get to some reliable internet. I have a tendency to break plastic-only buckles, which is why I was thrilled when I saw that nickel-plastic was an option. Logan's collar will be his working collar when he's finally a full service dog, so it'll get plenty of use. I just don't want to risk breaking the buckle when we're out and about. And thanks again for caring :)

no need to apologize I understand you wanted them for Christmas and I was more sorry than anyone that the **** flu hit me at the worst time of year.

I will make you a new set of collars with the correct buckles on there and send them out by Thursday, keep those 2 collars as backup/play collars or if you do not need them donate them to a rescue or shelter.

^^Best customer service award!

I've never ordered a Collarmania collar (or any collar from anywhere, Sawyer still has his Lupine martingale that came with him when I adopted him 5 years ago, on the rare occasion he needs to wear one) but just with this alone, Collarmania will be even higher on my list of recommended collar companies.

Have to say that this interaction and the reply that was given by Collar Mania has for sure placed them on my list of people I'd buy from. Now if only I wasn't so poor!

WOW thank you everyone that was unexpected.

My background is as a Customer Service Manager in the corporate world for 20 years before taking on this little venture and my ultimate goal is customer happiness even if it means I take a loss. A happy customer is a repeat customer and I do not like to see people pay good money for something they are not happy with. This does not mean I like people to take advantage of me, but I think the vast majority of people are inherently honest and will not do that.

This was my error and it ws just the right thing to do :)

I have always TOLD YOU GUYS that Lisa is awesome!
Here's Ophie and Luke's new collars on the way.
I saw this fabric and HAD TO have it for Ophie. I think she'll look great in it.

And Luke's. See, we did a trade and I got a new deluxe loop martingale collar from Lisa. Turns out, it's still a hair big on him, which is fine because I wanted it bigger so he could grow into it. He'll be nice and ready to wear it come spring when we can go on lengthier walks. So, I was going to order one for him out of the same fabric, but Lisa insisted she make me another for free because the other was just a little big.
See? She's awesome.

Now I wanna order from collarmania! LOL. I have a question... I've bought a few collars online, and the buckles and hardware ended up just being too big and bulky for little 15lb Jackson. I don't like the way that looks on him, he's a solid boy but he's got a pretty tiny neck. I like the 3/4" width but don't need heavy hardware since I don't walk him on a collar anyways.... can you customize what kind of hardware you get?
