I would go with your gut. After Mia was 18 months or so I always saw littler things about her movement at a walk I didn't like. But she hadn't been lame so didn't do anything about it and vet didn't worry, etc. Anyways, she has luxating patellas and still hasn't been lame.
There was a post on the BC boards recently about an owner being concerned about a dog's movement and the vets said it was fine. Specialist said it was fine but they took x-rays and he's got HD.
I don't know... I think gut instincts are worth checking out. I wish I'd acted on my suspicions with Mia earlier.
Yeah, I think we are going to have to get the x-rays sooner than later. :/
I just have two problems now.
1. I don't want to do it at my regular vets, but I have a hard time finding a good vet here. hm....
2. I'm not sure which part I should x-ray. I want to do the minimum number of x-rays to get a good answer, but I'm not sure which part of his hind end is the potential problem. I was thinking hips, but.....maybe not. I'm just not sure which would be best to start with. Argh.
I know exactly how you feel and I would definitely get it checked out if you can.
Watson has had a few periods of limping which we thought was Lyme, but I'm not sure. Now every time he holds up a foot, or seems tender with it, I worry. Our handling instructor also noticed that he was trotting wide in front, which he didn't do previously. I'm not sure there's anything I can do about it right now and he will have his hips and elbows checked in 6 months, but it's so frustrating, especially when it's so subtle.
It really is frustrating, especially when you have to wait so long to find an answer.
I hope it turns out to be nothing for Watson.
Yeah, if there's something that seems off, I'd get a specialist to look at it. Especially if you plan to do sports, etc with him. It may not rule sports out of course, but I'd want to know before going in how best to manage everything.
Do you know how one would go about finding a sports vet? I feel like that might be my best bet to find someone who can really evaluate him well, but I'm unsure how to start looking.
