Rowan is wicked smart... 5-7 repetitions and he's learned a command. Usually, anyway - some more complicated ones take a bit longer. But he always amazes me with what a quick learner he is. Sweet Riffers is not. It takes him weeks of intermittent training sessions to learn something new.
The one trick I've tried to teach Rowan that he couldn't get is "sit pretty." I think he's too barrel chested and not conscious enough of his body - he tries but he tips over every time he does it. If I try to steady him he gets too excited to focus. I finally called it a wash because it's not that important and we both get frustrated with it.
Riff, however, sits pretty on his own when he wants attention, just with his feet on the person he's interacting with. I started to put the command to it a few days ago and have been gently encouraging him to hold himself up, front feet in the air, and he's already picking it up! I'm so proud of him
I think the concept of capturing the behavior is much easier for him to understand than luring.
