Really? That is Lurch and he holds the world record. His horns were not supposed to be that big though, it was a defect. It eventually was cancer in them and that is what he died from. I would love to see bigger ones?
Watusi have horns just like that, often bigger. I am mobile and it's too hard to copy and paste images, but just do a search and you will see.

Shame about his cancer :(, he seems happy and well taken care of tho.

No, they really really dont. He was a world record holder for a reason. They are not often bigger!

I am not trying to be snarky but yeah, its just not true. I did a search and included the biggest in that for comparison.

He was on multiple television shows, documentaries, etc because of the size of his horns.

When you get off your mobile...find me one pic of bigger horns. His former owner would like to see.....

http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/size/largest-horn-circumference-steer

The largest horn circumference on a steer measured 95.25 cm (37.5 in) on 6 May 2003 and belong to Lurch, an African watusi steer owned by Janice Wolf (USA) of Gassville, Arkansas, USA. Sadly, Lurch died at 3 p.m. on 22 May 2010 of a cancer at the base of one of the horns. The body has has been released to a local taxidermist, who will produce a full-sized taxidermy of the steer

OK I have a question.... What exactly does trophy hunting/trophy fishing mean to people?

Just hunting and then throwing away the meat, cutting off the head for display? or do people who display antlers but eat the meat also qualify? I'm just curious on what that actually means to people
I would say killing FOR the trophy, as opposed to the trophy being a "bonus."

What disturbs me in a lot of situations where a trophy is a consideration (even if it's not the goal) is that it seems to undermine natural selection. When deer hunters are trying to get a buck with a big rack to display, or a trophy hunter shoots a male lion with a full mane, they're taking down the best animals in the prime of their lives, and I don't see how that helps anyone except the person looking for the best trophy. When you cut down a huge male lion who may have a pride he's protecting, that puts the pride in danger and also opens them up to be taken over by a (potentially) younger and/or weaker male who didn't have to "earn" the right to pass on his genes. But maybe I'm a cynic, and the trophy hunters look for old males who've been cast out of their prides but who still happen to be trophy-worthy...

In my experience a lot of the 'trophy' deer are pretty old. The one my dad got this year he has been hunting for 3 years. He was very gray faced.

After the picture of Lurch was posted, you posted

That breed of cattle is called a watusi, they are an African breed of (I believe) meat cattle, and their horns can grow even bigger! We knew someone who had one and his horns were twice as big as that one in the pic.

.
Watusi have horns just like that, often bigger.
So yes, Watusi have horns like Lurch (a watusi) but as he is the world record holder, no, they are not often bigger and I sincerely doubt your friend's had horns twice the size of the world record holder.

Maybe not in circumference but to believe I recall that he had him beat in length

I despise trophy hunting. It makes me feel sick.

I have no issue with hunting to eat, as long as it's quick and humane and people don't take more than they need, are concious of stocks, breeding seasons, migrations etc etc etc.

My issue with her is the pure joy she clearly gets from her kill. I don't understand it. I'd be devastated if I had to kill those animals NO MATTER why I had to do it.... even for food or population management I'd feel sorrow at the job I had to do... not some sick buzz....

I feel sad for the animals I eat as it is. I am happy to eat them!! But I have respect that they died for me to eat. Not just to hang off them looking tough or whatever it is she gets out of it.

Just not my bag.
This, totally this.

Hey maybe that makes me a hypocrite but I am NOT going to sit around to pretend that a big part of this isn't because of the species she is posing next to.
To me a tiger,leopard etc.. > chicken/deer/turkey/fish
They are all animals but some I care about more than others. That's just the reality of the situation.

"Why are people so upset that they eat dogs in certain countries, pigs are as smart as dogs but we eat them!"
BECAUSE BECAUSE! Because it's an emotional, complex, social and cultural issue that isn't based on rationality or black/white.

(for the record I think posing next to an animal you just killed is always off-putting regardless of it's type, but that's heavily personal too)

Tigers (and the rest of the large game) are in many areas endangered, protected intelligent large beautiful creatures with family structures and disney movies and national geographic documentaries etc..etc..etc.. the idea that they are worth MORE and seeing one dead causes us to FEEL MORE is heavily socially engrained, again that's just a reality.

So if I (even rationally let's say the tiger was rampaging a town and they were over populated in that area and people were going to eat the meat) WAS the one designated to kill one I PERSONALLY would feel awful for doing so because it would be killing such a magnificent intelligent animal and especially bad because yes, I respect them more than I do a chicken or cow or other animals we routinely eat.
I can't imagine taking joy in killing ANY animal at my own hand, because I CERTAINLY wouldn't want a souvenir of it
Do I eat turkey at thanksgiving? Yup.
Do I see that animal alive at some farm, pick it out, shoot it and take a picture with it's dead body? NOPE.

It's not rational, AT ALL, and I don't make the claim that it is. My feelings are rarely rational.

Seeing these pictures make my stomach turn (hypocritically, even as someone who routinely eats meat), I wouldn't want to be friends with this girl, I think it's awful she finds pleasure in this.
That doesn't mean I believe she is an awful human being or her actions should be illegal.

It's also a reality that if I did have to hunt and kill my own meat, I'd very likely be a vegetarian lol
(although for the record I still don't think food can be "cruelty free" when it's farmed by exploited workers so....yea..it's kind of a tough time all around lol)
These are also my completely irrational feelings but I have no problem admitting I feel that way.

Um, in a previous post you mentioned knowing someone with a Watusi that horns twice as big as Lurch's? If you look it up it says Lurch's horns measure seven feet from tip to tip....so you knew someone with a Watusi that had 14 foot horns tip to tip? Sorry I am finding that rather hard to believe.

Well, since we are going to pick apart my posts like always, let's then. I really don't care who believes me or not or thinks I am a crazy liar or not.

The watusi we knew has long since died (also of cancer but not in the horns ... I think he had cancer of the liver) it's probably been more than ten years since he passed so it's not like I can prove it.

My main issue is you also said they are often much bigger. It's just not true.

Look I try really hard to not pick apart your posts because sometimes people do go a bit overboard but come on. Read what you actually wrote here in light Of realizing that pic was if the works record holder.

You don't have to always one up everyone else's post.
