There's no where to go here where you could or would tie a dog up.. And honestly, Bodhi goes ballistic being left, so I've never even tried! Too embarrassing!

I don't worry anyone will steal her, she's hardly sought after. We do worry about dog theft now though. Been lots of publicity recently, seems more and more dogs are being taken, and Fred is a young intact male from good lines. I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving him tied outside a shop etc.

That's not the point, the point is the judgments being made of those who walk their hots when it's hot out.

Additionally knee jerk judgments of those who leave dogs in cars such as I have had the cops called on my AC blasting Prius because some well meaning idiot didn't hear the battery over the dogs thirsting for their blood for getting too close to my car.

I guarantee if you broke my window my dogs would attack you and I am not sure how much damage would ensue before I called them out. Because of this I have considered a police k9 cage for the windows but for now we just have a sign that says in kinder words to back the heck off, my dogs are fine and they will hurt you.

Normal people shouldn't need to fear an over zealous animal freak bashing in their windows because they worry the dogs are too warm, because most people who'll threaten property damage are rarely sensible enough to have a realistic understanding of too hot.

Some of the graphics get extreme, but frankly I think it's good to have it on people's minds. You've grown up with dogs and know what they can physically handle. Most people are not "dog people" and don't think about that sort of thing. The paws on hot pavement PSAs don't advocate property damage.

Yes, it's good for people to use common sense. But the inflammatory photos, etc, get people stirred up and then they overreact, which I don't see as helpful. There was just a case here of a dog stolen out of someone's truck, it was in a camper shell and at NIGHT, but I'd bet money that whoever took the dog thought they were 'rescuing' it from a hot car.

I'm just waiting for someone to go off on me for walking my dog on the sidewalk when it's 90 degrees out. They will probably not notice that she isn't in distress, and is not choosing to walk on the grass right next to the sidewalk. :wall:

I don't fret that anyone could steal from my car but I don't know about tied out, Backup might go with them but they'dtie him back out promptly. lol

I do worry with pit bulls.

I see dogs tied out pretty often, I think, and I've never heard of dog theft being an issue in this area. Definitely not saying it doesn't exist, just that I never heard anything about it so never gave much thought to it.

Trent's very quiet and calm when he's left out (he'll bark for a minute or two if he's left in the car, but is quiet when outside and tied). I guess I could see the appeal and it's not outrageous to think that someone would want to steal him... but the idea of someone trying to walk off with him in tow? :rofl1: It really wouldn't go too well for them. He's just so wholly disinterested in people and SO focused on waiting for me to return that I could see him running into the coffee shop if untied.

The only time I've ever left my dogs tied out was when I walked across the street to my bank while my car's oil was getting changed. It's a tiny bank; I was probably never more than 30 feet from them the entire time. I'd actually worry more about people letting their dogs bother mine.

Good luck stealing them. Meg has lived in the same house as my parents for over 7 years. She adores them. She will NOT leave the property with my father at all, and won't leave with my mother if I'm home. You'd have to literally pick her up and carry her to get her to leave. I doubt she'd let a stranger just walk off with her.

Gusto would go with anyone. He'd be back within the hour.

Yeah, I'm just not ok with overblown fear mongering or scare tactics. I think vary rarely help other than to incite already ignorant people to do things like break windows.

I have no problem with real PSA things that say something like "Hey, if it's going to be super hot out and you want to go shopping you might want to leave your dog at home" or "Walk your dog in the grass when it's 100 degrees out" or "Remember to provide shade and water when out in heat"

Those are sensible but not inflammatory nor are they spreading false information like that dog with the feet burned off.

It reminds me a lot of the people that were going nuts a few years back (I think it's died down) anytime a dog was tethered or possibly an out door dog. Where things where going around talking about the horrors of a dog being tethered and people were being provoked into stealing dogs and calling cops on innocent people.

I don't think ignorance should be treated with more ignorance.
