I volunteer at a food and fellowship mission, we supply meals for the homeless and low income families. Anyhow, a mother of 6 kids ranging from the age of 12 to 3 years of age comes strolling. The 3 year old child has a large bite mark on her right cheek extending from her eye to her chin.

I asked the mother what happened? She states to me that the neighbours dog, bite her! I asked if she'd ( child) had seen the Dr.and if she had reported the bite? She said; No why? It was the childs fault, not the dogs!:yikes:

I tried to explain, that a 3 yr old child is not to be held responsible for the dog biting her. She stated, the child was told not to bug the dog, and she did. So she gets what she deserves!

As well the mother said, if I do report it the Children Aid will be called!:yikes: I just can't figure people out! Why, anyone would blame a 3 yr old child, why place the child in danger, and why not take the child to the Dr's for her health and safety?

What would you do, in this type of situation. Report the incident, or let it slide?????

Meco the answer is in your post. She has 6 children and popped them out like a litter and is having to come and get food else where to feed them. She is worried about Childrens Aid becoming involved. That to me says it all. Total irresponsibility. I would have turned her into to children's aid to get the baby taken care of. She could get a nasty infection that can cause all kinds of further damage. Fine picture of motherhood there I tell you.

REPORT, REPORT, REPORT!!! Not yelling at you, but this NEEDS to be dealt with, and IMO, the children rehomed. Those kids need to be taken care of, and the child with the bite wound needs to see a doctor and have the bite reported. Obviously, the bite isn't the dog's fault, but it's not the child's fault, either!!! It's the parent(s) fault for no supervision and responsibility, and with care like that, I'd prefer the woman is never responible for a gerbil!

I say report as well! At least they'll get looked into, and then maybe she;ll start to be more responsible about it

By law, because of my profession, I'm mandated to report things. I think more people should be mandated, because people tend to ignore things :(

With my experiance with it here, however, I somehow doubt anything will be done about it, and she'll get away with it. JMHO :(

Yes exactly:

The situation was reported, the dog is placed under quarentine, mother and father are angry! Can't figure out why I would report the situation, and we all know the rest! Everyone to blame but them!!!

The child probably did provoke the dog. And in a sence did deserve it. But nonetheless the mother should have taken the child to the doctor to be looked after.

I don't believe any child at the age of 3 deserves to be dog bit in any "sense". This is clearly the fault of the mother. She should start blaming herself, not the kid!

I know I wouldn't let a 3 year old around a dog that couldn't be trusted!

What a "mother".
