Well i will be a laughed at crazy person in an insecure relationship then , but hey its worked for 10 years with a tribe of kids and we are happy.

Maybe it is the regional differences , this type of thread has came up before and i noticed it then also.

It's ok, I'll be clucked at as a disrespectful floozy and it's worked happily for 15. It's almost as if... different things work for different people. :p

I had a really close male friend/colleague for the last year & we hung out after work at least 4 days a week. We were both in okay, long distance relationships of 4.5 & 6 years. When we realized we were falling in love with each other we did agree it was either all or nothing and we had to make decisions about current SOs. If either of us wanted to stay in our current relationship we agreed to back off & spend less time together -- so not all "affairs" are malicious! I really liked his gf and he liked my bf, we all hung out together on occasion it just wasn't meant to be (or was).

I couldn't imagine not having other friends or friends of the opposite sex. If a relationship ends because of a friendship the relationship wasnt as strong as once thought. I wouldn't like it if he spent more time with other people if I was around, but if I'm at work or busy I don't see too much of an issue.

This exactly! It's interesting to hear about how different relationships function, and in the end who cares what other people think as long as you and your SO are happy together?

I'm so late to the party, but my best friend is male, and my boyfriend has no problems with that. I have more male friends than female; something about being brash and loud and unsubtle. ;]

My boyfriend's best friend and I do. not. get. along. We had a fight about four years ago (political, of course) and now we're all about the, "Hello, how are you, that's nice, oh excuse me, the kitchen needs shaving, enjoy your outing with my boyfriend."

That said, I understand that other people have different 'friend demographics' than I do, and don't really care how other folks conduct their relationships.

Yeah I din't really care wht others do. Well i do care because I care about people but if it works for them I don't care HOW it works for them.

I alsodon't think it makes a person or not trusting of their spouse yo realize and admit that we are all human beings and prone to mistakes and to realize that sometimes affairs start before people realize whats happening (not the actual act of sex but most times affairs have begun long before it ends up in the bedroom). Absolutely nothing wrong with realizing that

Paul had a married couple as friends who did everything they could to break us up. He stopped seeing them. 6 weeks before we got married the man came up to him and told him that if he married me he would loose a friend. Paul informed him that they were NOT friends on account of him being a giant red snapper.

In a way it bothers me, though gender has nothing to do with it. I just like being friends with people and don't like it when people dislike me. :p As soon as gender is brought into play, IMO you're usually talking about a jealousy issue as opposed to a friend issue.

The boy and I share 90% of the same friends group. We've grown up together, it's kind of inevitable. That said, I have a few friends who aren't close to him and he has a few friends who aren't close to me. Some of mine are male, some of his are female, if that matters.

One of his friends is coming to visit in June, and I'm fine with it as long as she respects me and my home, and is a polite guest. She doesn't have to like me... though I really just haven't gotten the chance to get to know her, so we may hit it off, who knows? :)

My guy and I are very different people who attract different types of friends. If a friend of his isn't keen on being friends with me, that's fine as long as they're respectful of me, and I expect the same of my friends with my guy. If the respect line is crossed, then we have a talk and resolve it.
