Sam hasn't eaten all day. She doesn't want to go to the bathroom, or play either. She just sleeps all day. She even snapped at Harley. Any idea as to what's going on ??

She obviously is sick and doesn't feel well and is taking it out on Harley, even. I'd get her to the vet and get her checked out...

We just got back. The vet couldn't find anything wrong with her. She asked if Sam had experienced any thing dramatic over the last few weeks and I told her about Dakota. She said that Sam might be depressed over that. I told her it happned a few weeks ago, so she checked Sammy over again. Sam's temperature was at 110 ! She gave me some medicine and that should make her feel better. I have to keep her isolated as the virius could spread to Lemon and Harley. Poor Sammy girl. :(

I'm glad you got Sam to the vet. My CJ had a 103 temp and the vet had to give us meds to get it down; she was acting the same way. A temp of 110 is really high. Did the vet say what kind of virus Sam has that could spread to the other pets?

I can't remember the term she used, but it is kind of like the flu, except for dogs.

im really surprised your vet didnt offer more treatment - a temp of 110 is pretty much incompatible with life, and the dog should be on iv fluids to lower the temp because maintaining that high is going to start affecting the brain...

the vet didnt run any bloodwork or anything?

That is a high fever. Is she at least drinking? Keep an eye on her. I hope she gets to feeling better.

I was getting worried so I brought her back to the vet's. Her temp has now gone down to 105. I am relived. She is drinking water now and she is feeling a bit better, as she ate some Innova EVO.

Lisa, thanks for warning me about the Coccidea.

The vet said that she was probably just a little overwhelmed and her system didn't take it well. I will watch her all night, but she will be fine.

you posted like 30 minutes prior to this.... thats an awful quick vet visit.

105 is still absolutely dangerous and i cannot believe your vet sent the dog home TWICE.

the dog, if she is actually sick and has a temp this high, NEEDS to be hospitalized. temperatures of this degree are life threatening.

something is going on, and i dont think its the dog. time stamps just arent adding up.

Tangled web

Yeah she confuses me too! And the times in between posts are odd.

she just broke her leg, and is on the internet less than 24hrs later, and goes to the mall, oops no she meant fractured, it doesn't hurt. a stranger buys a dog at a pet store and then just tosses it to her and runs off. another dog showed up at her doorstep earlier this month, it runs outside and is hit by a car, develops a tumor, gets pts, and she says, "this is a result of a backyard breeder because a real breeder would have some sort of guarantee on their dogs" How would she know the breeder to get the guarantee or not if it came to your porch? why was it allowed to run outside? Now this dog has a temp. of 110, oops now it's down to 105, the vet sent her home twice when at 104 their brains can be severely damaged. And she don't even remember the name of the illness/virus the vet said her dog has. But the dog will be fine, she will watch it all night.

1) Sorry. I was in a rush. Okay, I live right beside the vet clinic I can walk over there so it is no problem.

2) I thought something was up... this wasn't my normal vet;the vet thinks that 110 isn't high for a mastiff. (Or any dog, really.) Her temp is down to 104 now, so she is feeling better.

3) As for my leg, Alicia let me borrow her laptop. How do I get to places? My friend drives me everywhere. I get my cast off soon ! :D

4) Um... anything else I need to clear up?

EDIT:  just called the vet. Turns out, the vet that was in there was an intern or something and misread the thermometor. I am bringing Sam to a NEW clinic this afternoon.

suuuuure... just hope your dog is fine. you keep lowering the temp, and they are STILL dangerous temps that would require hospitalization!! if my dog had a temp that high, i would be fighting tooth and nail to find a second or third opinion to be seen - can humans live with temps that high?

but hope your dog is fine... or something.

Sirius that still doesn't explain why your "vet" said that 110 isn't a high temperature. Do you not think that a vet would re-check the temperature if it read that high? I mean, it's just common sense!

Sorry, but all of this doesn't add up. I'm beginning to think that your dog isn't sick at all...

"When a dog's temperature has reached 108 or 110 degrees it can only take a couple of minutes before brain damage can occur.

105 ... IS STILL WAY TOO HIGH

GET HER IN A TUB OF COLD WATER ....

Your dog will suffer brain damage if this is true !
