Keep plugging away Saje.........I agree that as long as she doesn't seem to be suffering, I would keep trying what ever you can.

Get well soon Sakari :) We are thinking of you.

Yeah? I'd just really like to see her appetite pick up. She seems interested in food. Sniffs it but won't eat it. Except when she's cleaning her paws. :(

so the vet said renee is right :p

actually what he said was you don't want to add too much to her system because she won't be able to get rid of it. so nothing for the vomiting

honestly I think she's doing marginally better. Nothing spectacular but I haven't seen her throw up in awhile. She's learning how to drink slower. I stand next to her while she drinks and say "ok that's enough" after a couple slurps and she goes and lays down. I don't know why. I guess cuz I talk to her so much. I only stopped her by taking the bucket away once. She catches on quick! The vet likes that. - that she's not drinking as quickly.

I just gave her fluids and some nutrical. I gave her more nutrical than usual about half an hour ago and she's still holding it down. Yay! (sush your package arrived today and thank you so much! I had just run out of the one from the vet :) )

Had a scare! I thought she was throwing up but it was just a cat. Hairball I guess. Poor cat. lol

It really does sound like she's slowly coming back....slow and steady wins the race remember. At least I hope that little saying applies here.

Kisses to Sakari and hugs to you!:)

I really, really hope she's doing better. She's held that nutrical down for an hour and a half now so I think it's in her system. I just gave her another tablespoon and she ate that. Then I wipes about a teaspoon on her paws and she very thoroughly cleaned it off. And I gave her about a 1/4 cup of water and she drank about half of it and is now curled up in front of my bedroom door.

Last night I gave her a whole array of food to choose from (teaspoon of this, teaspoon of that). She didn't touch it when I went to bed but this mornign I thought she had. Upon closer inspection I realized that she had just slept with her head on the plate as her hair was all sticky

I'm so glad that she seems to be hanging in there and that I was able to help out in a small way :) Thanks for the steady updates!

And thank you for sending the nutrical. Let me know if you ever want anything from canada. beaver hat maybe? lol just kidding. Unless you really do want one. :p

As for the updates, they help me too. Especially with the feedback and encouragement. I need someone to share it with!

Saje I answered your PM just now.

That thread you are posting above doesn't work for me, it says I am trying to change someone else's post.

The vet doesn't think she's suffering and neither do I. He said she has an amazing pain threshold though and after sticking needles in her several times a day I have to say I agree.

What would they give for nauseus and is there anything I can pick up myself? His office in town isn't open til wednesday but I could make a trip out to the neighbouring town if I have to. I was just thinking maybe there is something we take that dogs can have?
i would seriously consider getting a second opinion. WHY hasnt your dog that has been continually vomiting been placed on antacids and anti-emetics (to stop the vomiting?).

ANd she is peeing so he said stop the sq fluids? the peeing is because her kidneys are shot and she cannot concentrate her urine - if she is in acute v. chronic renal failure, there is a chance she may regain that function, but she NEEDS the fluids to flush the toxins out of her system. yes, it sucks she pees a lot, but decreasing the fluids isn't the answer.

youre vet is REALLY behind on the times - ive dealt with numerous animals in renal failure and have had 1 myself of my own - not giving her something to make her FEEL better is ridiculous - she is nauseous because the toxins built up in her system make her feel like crap, since her kidneys cannot clear them out.

what has her bloodwork shown?

hm. She hasn't had bloodwork since i took her home last wk and i can't remember specifics. he showed it to me but i didnt ask for a copy. i will and let you know.

as for a 2nd opinion he's one of 2 clinics in the area and is the only one that will do a payment plan. plus i like him more.

what drugs should she be on? i can ask him. he's willing to try anything. i think she is feeling better though. She hasn't thrown up today as far as i know

his thoughts behind reducing the fluids was because she is holding down water now. she has been getting 1500 mL a day instead of 2000 mL. So you think i should give her more?
