Well, I cant answer for Lizmo, but IMO, AKC is the worst thing for working breeds. They loose that drive to work, in order to have perfect ears or a perfect tail. Its un-needed, and ruins the (working) breeds. Just compare an AKC Sibe to a Seppala. The Seppala performs way better, is is at the same performance level as many Alaskans. Then again, a Seppala would never win Best in Show, they look nothing like Sibes. You do have people (Karen Ramstead for example) who's dogs are both bred for show and go. ;)
So, Chinooks, being bred orginally for sled dogs, should be bred true to sled dog standards, not show standards. The same should go for Mals and Sibes.

Chinooks are on the AKC breed list, sorry to say. They just cannot be shown. Look under FSS.

There's quite a few breeds being accepted into the AKC now under FSS, and they will eventually be put into groups, as has already been done with a few other breeds recently accepted.

Honey Bear (my gold dog, see avatar and siggy) is a chinook. {part German, St. Bernard, and Bernese Mt. Dog}

If I remember correctly, Chinooks have no St. Bernard, or Bernese Mt. Dog.
Also, last time I checked, the kennel where the Chinook was developed in for sale in NH. A great historical place. Full of mushing history.

Hony_Bear, I think Jennifer meant "Yah." or "Yeah" or "ya" and on the keyboard the "y" is directly above the "h." Just a guess though.

Chinooks are bred Chinook/Chinook, have been for a while. They are only recently introducing outcrossing to try and save the breed. They're not a new breed by any means.

I thought that they were. I probably read it wrong. Let me check.
