I have a one year old and will be getting a 8-10 wk old puppy in a month. Would it be better to crate them close to each other or would that cause more problems?

It would probably help puppy adjust better, be more comfortable is my guess. I plan on leaving my dog in the same area as puppy at night when we bring ours home. But I dont know if that's the right choice or not.

If the adult dog doesn't really like the pup I'd crate them apart so that the adult gets some time away to feel safe in her bed. If the adult loves the pup and doesn't guard the crate or toys in the crate then you can try keeping them close, yes it may help the pup feel better. However the opposite could happen and the pup might go crazy because he can't get through into the other dog so you'd have to try and see what happens.

Many dogs veiw their crate as their personal space away from other animals and people in the house so if your dog is like this don't have a puppy invading his little home, so it'll really depend on the two dogs.

They can be crated next to each other. Try it, if it doesn't work out you can move one of the crates. I'd be certain the one year old is solid on leave it, recall, sit, and down. You want to be able to call him off.
