Preventing Muscle Soreness/stiffness

Maybe that's why I was never sore? Because here at our place from the house gate to the front property gate is half a mile ... So when I be Done running I have to walk back, so maybe that "cool down" is why I never got sore.
It may also be that the half mile isn't pushing your muscles enough to cause soreness to begin with. This would be especially likely if you've been running the same distance at the same pace for a while - your muscles would be well acclimated to it.

Yesterday I went on a 2.2 mile hike (way shorter than usual) but it was almost half up a mountain so this morning I'm feeling it in my calves. The change in angles was enough to catch up to me. Wearing my VFF shoes really seems to minimize shin pain, but it does maximize calf workouts I've found and I really need to get into the habit of cooling down for sure!
