Humm so i wonder why my dads dog is doing it? he is nine now, and doesnt live with other dogs who he could learn it from! I supose it could be boredom?
Can you tell us a little more about your Dad's dog? Did he start doing this just recently? It could very well be any of the factors, but it could be that he is getting up there in age and his dietary needs are changing... And you said that he gets sick afterwards? Throwing up?

Thanks Giny! .:hugs:.

This is a thing he started doing recently?
What kind of food does he eat?

I'd see if he could be seen by a vet just in case ;)

my puppy beagle has been doing this since we got her at 8 weeks old. shes always been on science diet so i know her food is pretty decent. she doesnt eat the other dogs just hers and sometimes she likes the tasty morsels of a cats poop. shes 6 months old now and still doing it. i changed her food a month ago and it didnt help. she loves it, i have to fight her to spit it out which is worse because she usually then runs with it behind the couch so im better off leaving her be.
i just purchased some dis-taste powder that is supposed to make the poopy icky tasting to the dogs, like as if it isnt icky tasting allready...sheesh
ill let you know if it works :)

I should ask a couple of clients what they feed their dogs, because we have three that gobble poo like it's an all-you-eat buffet. It's an English bulldog, a mini doxie an a GSHP doing it...I know the doxie is on Pedigree and the client got a little huffy when I suggest switching his food. "He's 8 and has eaten this his whole life!"

Ew, while Science Diet is better than say, Ol' Roy, it's still not that great of a food. Check out this thread: http://www.chazhound.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11582 and also www.mordanna.com/dogfood

When dogs eat poop its because they aren't recieving the proper nutrition try mixing pedigree meats with kibbles and add doggy vitamins to thier daily diet.

Your dog is an odd canine. Does your canine eat human feces? That would save you money in the water department.

I would try the Garlic thing.

Hey all. I was in a few weeks ago talking about my Golden Chow mix hwo was urinating and pooing in the house. She is 13 years old. We were worried about her loosing control of things. Well it has continued on and off and now she is also eating her poo when she goes out and as mentined above ignores all commands when doing this. IS it just old age and senility setting in? Who knows. She has also been going to the bathroom in our bedroom and closed in areas where she would never go before. Were afraid the time to put her down
is getting closer.
