So I took Jazz and Emma to the pet store yesterday. We were looking at the puppies :( and the person in charge of the puppies comes over and fawn over how cute Emma is. Emma didn't jump on her :D Progress!

well she gets to Jazz and says "Aww She's so cute. What happened to her ears? Why are they in casts?"

I say they are croped. And she asks what croping means  so I tell her.

But wait it gets even stupider.

She then asks me if she is a purebred. I say yes she will do conformaition shows. She says, aww I love Min Pins

Wow! OK so I had one or two people ask me if she was a min pin when I first got her. These were normal people who didnt have dogs. But a pet store employee in charge ofthe puppies!! She's 21 1/2inches tall at the sholders! Not to metion she's filling out.

Good God!

Except for the lack of a tail, different coat type, and his muzzle is wider and blunter than a BC's...and his herding posture is the Aussie upright and not the BC crouch... :)

Zeus has been called a...
-Great Dane puppy (this lady was 100% positive that he would "grow up and be huge", even though I told her he was nearly 2 years old.)
-Mastiff or mastiff mix
-Anatolian
-Lab
-Greyhound

Voodoo has been called a
-Pit bull (I understand this one)
-Boxer
-Brown dalmation
-Australian Cattle Dog
-German Shorthaired Pointer
-Bull terrier

Its so sad because this person is in charge of the puppies they sell. She give info to the buyers. It's sad that she cant even tell the difference between a min pin and a dobe

HAHA thats too funny..

Honestly, they DONT take on the most talented or more knowledgable.

Proven fact here.. a friend of mine applied for an assistant groomers job, so did I (a while ago). I have experience, she has none- she doesn't even have a dog..

lol she got the job.

In training she told me that they told everyone that they hired people, not for their experience but for their "drive" lol
...Shouldn't an assistant groomer at least have experience?! lol

Thats funny. No wonder so many dogs end up in shelters from pet shops. They think they are buying a Chihuahua and end up with a lab. You would think they would send them to school or something.

But, I'm used to it with Brutus, only three people have known what his breed is. Most people are convinced he is a Great Dane.
A heavy great dane with wrinkles. lol

LOL

I think its because I am so obsessed with dogs that I can see one and just know what it is, that I am stunned at other peoples stupidity

Well, of course all of you know Maddie is a golden retriever puppy (how can anyone on this earth not know what a cocker spaniel it... those ears! common now!)

These are pretty funny - keep them coming!

You can't really hold a minimum wage unskilled laborer accountable for knowing everything about every dog breed. Heck, I don't trust the guy in the stereo store to tell me anything, I research it before I buy and know what I'm looking for. Those people are just trying to earn a living. Some know more than others but none know as much as the person who does their homework. I'd know that a dobie isn't a mini pin, and I'd know why it's ears are taped, but I probably would have a hard time telling some of the other breeds apart as pups. Does that make me unqualified for a retail job in a pet store?
