so my dog princess got spayed today ;shes ten(big mistake should have done it sooner)also she had 4 breast tumors removed:( i was so worried about her during the surgery but the vet said the surgery went great and now shes home...she seems not herself AT ALL , all she does is lay there and sleep and ocasionally lift her head to look at me...is this normal? when will this wear off? p.s. she wont drink any thing and usually she drinks like shes never going to see water again lol

Just let her relax and keep her comfortable. The surgery was today? It's a pretty major surger (unlike for the boys!!!) She'll be fine you just need to giver her time. My dog got spayed in.. Oct? And she was fine the next day. Yours is a bit older so the recovery might be a bit slower. Call your vet if something concerns you. It's best to be sure!

Oh, and don't try to get her to drink food and water. She'll probably throw up. :(

Many girls are VERY groggy the first day post surgery. My older girl that was spayed would not/could not even get up on her own the first day after.

She should be feeling much better in the morning. If not, consult your vet.

Follow the aftercare instructions carefully, especially regarding exercise.

imsoconfused, I had this done on one of my dogs, though she only had one tumor to remove and she was only 8, but she was very tired and in much pain as well. It hurts to see them so tired and drained, but let her rest. Give her lots of attention and love and she'll be alright. :)

I'm praying for a fast recovery for your little princess.

awww. Try and find some way for her to sleep comfortably. Lots of pillows and blankets! The more rest the better.

Did your vet send you home with pain medication to give her? If not, I would march right back to the vet's office and request it. We always sent home 5-7days worth of pain medication with our surgery patients!

Licking at the incision is not good! Get the e-collar asap. I think a little redness is normal. Has she torn out any of her stitches??

Yes, you need an e-collar. She can't be licking.. it will make it worse.

Keep her tethered to you with a leash at all times. Then you will be able to stop her when she is licking. If she gets free run of the house and you aren't paying attentino, she could make it worse with the licking.
