So I asked my friend on the adoption committee for an update on Opie, and she said he went home, that he and the other dog seem to be doing very well, and attached this picture.

If/when they send pics/updates in the newsletter, I will post them for you guys to see.

That sure is one interesting looking dog. I know, I keep saying that, but...

I know how hard it must be for you, but I'm so glad the new home is keeping you updated - usually that's a very good sign. I'm so glad Opie's finally out of the shelter; he seems like such a good dog that doesn't deserve to live behind bars. I hope his new home gives him all the love and cookies he deserves! He and his new brother look like two peas in a pod! :)

And there's no question that you'll find the perfect dog when the time is right. As hard as it is now, when you find the dog that you can take home, you won't regret it. I fostered a wonderful dog named Lindy after Belle died but before we got Boo. She was perfect and we would have kept her had it not been for the fact that I had promised a couple that she would be at the adoption event. She got adopted that day and I was sad for what could have been. But two months later we walked into the animal shelter and saw Boo and now I can't imagine life without her. Things have a way of working out even if they don't seem like it at the moment. I'm sure it'll work out for you. I would love to hear Opie updates from his new home!

I am sorry you are going through this... I am also glad that they are keeping you updated and hope that they keep up the good work. Sometimes life takes strange turns and sometimes you do not know why. Maybe it all happens for a reason. But, I know, that is not very comforting, so here you got big, big ((((((HUGS))))))

It's bittersweet. Good to see Opie out of a shelter but it sucks it wasn't with you. I wish that boy all the best.

I think we all fell in love with Opie through you Cristy. I hope he does well--and that you will feel at peace with it all.

It's nice to see him in a home, but it suck that it's not with you.

Absolutely. I really got Gavroche because it was the right dog at the right time, all by accident, and it couldn't have worked out any better. There have been a lot of dogs I wanted to take home, a couple that have even been PTS because I couldn't take them home, but Gavroche is THE one.

Thank you all.

I'm not being updated personally by his people, the way it works is that people send updates to the adoption committee who will then publish them in the newsletter. His people have my phone number if they need it, gave it to them several months ago when they visited Opie at FOHA.

I don't know if I'll ever be "ok" with it. Truth be told, I'm miserable.

Im so sorry your miserable, I hope they atleast keep up with some form of update, even if it isn't directly to you so atleast you know how hes doing. Maybe try to somehow give them your number again, or get their email? it would be nice for you to have some more..personal updates and give you a chance to give them important info

as for the picture, they dont look super happy but know knows? they could've just finished playing and are tired, or just got back from a walk, or just relaxing. My dog doesn't look uber happy in all the pictures I take of him, doesn't mean he isn't
No need to make this situation any worse than it is for her... for all we know, Opie is happy at his new home. I mean, its not as good as being with sweets of course, but I suppose its better than living at a shelter.

Agreed. You can't look at a single still picture of two dogs and determine whether or not they are happy.

He's a nice looking dog, Sweets. It's a shame he's not with you.

If you wanted, you could ask that the rescue send you the updates when they get them; that way you won't have to wait for the newletter. The rescues I've worked with before have operated solely out of foster homes, so usually I've corresponded directly with the adopters. I forgot that FOHA actually has a shelter, so it's a bit different. But regardless, 90% of adopters never take the time to write a note, so the fact that they've done that and more by takng both dogs to training means a lot. They didn't adopt him on a whim and because of that, they're more likely to put in the time and effort that he so clearly needs.

As for him not looking "happy," I wouldn't worry - I'm sure he's just settling in. He sounds like the kind of dog who needs to earn your trust - once he learns that his new adopters are "his," he'll probably put on more of those fila smiles.

Sweet, I hope they can keep you updated and turn out to be a wonderful home that you're happy for him to be in. I know how hard it is to give up a dog that you've gotten to know and love.

Jules looks miserable in every photo..even more so if he's having to sit next to another dog...even dogs he doesn't mind. So, I'd not go entirely on a photo. Not to mention, it's a new home and there's an adjustment period...he's been in a shelter setting for quite a long time...going to a home setting and all that entails has to be new and overwhelming.

It's unfortunate that he isn't in your home, but at least he's in a home setting and not in a kennel all day at a shelter.

Did they ever bother to visit regularly after that? If I recall, they have a history of having problems handling the one large dog they already have?

No. They only visited that one time and then when he was in training. Their dog has aggression issues that they didn't bother to work on until FOHA refused to adopt a dog to them.

Fran, for your comment directed at me. . . I'm not trying to make the situation worse for Cristy. I'm not even sure if that's within my capabilities right now, at least not when it comes to Opie. But I know how he looks in person and how he photographs, and when that picture was taken, it was not a happy moment for him.

Oh, now there's loving family

I don't think it's possible to make this any worse for Cristy, except maybe with platitudes and not acknowledging that this is heartbreaking for her -- and Opie.

Filas DON'T forget. Especially not those they love.

wow! These poor people are being crucified and they are not even here to protect themselves.
Opie has found a home, that is good news. It is sad that Cristy couldn't take him but he is out of a shelter now. That is good.

I really do think bashing his new owners without knowing anything about them is in poor taste.
