I'm in awe. Dakota is the anti-showdog, but apparently today was feeling quite photogenic. He's never stacked willingly before, so I had to snap a couple of pictures.

He has got to be one of the prettiest dogs i have ever seen. Border collies are just so amazing their beautiful and yet still have that working dog look to them. I love his coat you obviously take really good care of your boy. Out of curiousity I've always been told that these are really active dogs. how to you keep him occupied? Does he herd or do agility?

Thanks! I'm proud of him. (Not that you can tell, or anything.)
I wish now that I hadn't cut his coat back. It's practical but kind of throws off his balanced look.

Anna, you are correct. Border Collies are a very, very active breed. They have an almost frantic, intense energy about them and most need a job of some sort to do. Currently he's too young to really work hard in agility but we've started training. His job around the house is just to help me out, if I drop something I ask him to pick it up for me, if I need something I ask him to find it and bring it to me. (Handy if I ever lose my cellphone) I have to be downright lazy sometimes in order to keep him occupied. We walk a couple of miles a day, and he gets a run around the backyard 3-4 times a day during his potty breaks. It's really not bad, keeping him busy and happy isn't hard for me to do.

Smkie, aww thank you :) I love his coat, it is so incredibly soft and silky but it's tough and rugged at the same time. I don't have a ton of pictures of him after he's been bathed and blowdried, but he looks absolutely amazing when he's just been cleaned. I recently did cut his hair on his belly and forelegs just because he tends to get that long hair caught on things and it's more of a burden to him as a working dog.

when i was a punk at the field trials trying to be a big shot like the other trainers i use to take my car keys and throw them into the nearest brush or cornfield..Charlie always without fail brought them back...he never failed. I think that is an excellent way to train your dog and keep him occupied! Good thing i didn't have a cell phone back then! I probably would have thrown that too

I swear he's part retriever :D Must be the setter/spaniel influence in the breed, because he loves bringing me anything he can wrap his mouth around. This dog will actually take a hotdog and retrieve it, without eating it.
I need to start field work with him, I already know he can find things on flat ground and hidden inside cabinets. He's actually showing some potential as a hunting dog and it'd be amazing if I could get him titled in hunting, herding and agility.

Smkie, I don't have many of his baby pictures left :( When my computer crashed I lost all of them. I will see if I can dig a few up, though, I know I have a couple on my old photobucket account.
