Oil (from street oiling) in poodlex coat

I just got a call from a client asking how to get street oil out of her dogs coat. I guess the streets are being done in front of her new home and one of her kids left her front door open.
Her 5 month old black poodle X pup skidded in the oil and now it's crusted on his chest, paw and back leg.

Will she have to have those areas shaved or is there something safe that can be done without shaving?

Try coke. My mom's long haired white cat had tarn in her hair and that worked.

Paint thinner works on cloths, but I imagine it would be horibly toxic to a dog

I heard coke works on skunk stinks.

Now, I saw a commerical, a Dawn commercial, and it said that they use Dawn to help birds that will otherwise die from being caught in oilspills.

Maybe some type of liquid dishwashing detergent?

Dawn is the miracle soap for oily and greasy coats. It may two or three times as opposed to one, but it does the job.

Thanks, I'll pass it on. She said that it's hard and crunchy now, do you think coke or Dawn would still work? It's sure worth a try...

Dawn is what they use on the animals that get covered after an oil spill. So I think it should work on a dog. Shouldn't matter that it's dry. Hope it works!

I agree with the Dawn solution. I use it to remove whale blubber from a little maltese. did the trick very nicely.
