Grace--what if you took some of your dad's clothing and let Z sniff it, and then reward him for it--at least to get him accustomed to his scent? I had a rescue dog, Libby who was very leary of men/boys--especially if they were wearing hats. My 2 boys were constantly wearing baseball hats--so I took their clothes and did the treat thing, then added the hats, then the boys wearing hats....it worked for us. She was a smaller dog than Z,but she had been abused (probably by kids/men). Just a thought.

Second, sorry about the dad situation... But like Bax said, try that...
I know what you're going through, kind of. Bella doesn't like people, but will tolerate them if I'm with her... But without me, she doesn't like them near at all!
Heck, I'm going to steal the idea Bax gave, and give that a try!

Well, to be fair to Patches and Elway, Jess, Zaphod was being a jerk.
No progress with dad yet, BabyBlue, but I have been doing what Bax suggested and I've put an old shirt of my dad's in Zaphod's crate. He thinks of his crate as safety, so if safety smells like dad... then yeah.
Maybe it'll work.

I just thought it was a little funny sorry 
It could be because dad is a man, Lauren. I honestly don't know! I don't have any men who have agreed to be a test dummy and see if Z will tolerate them.
Maxy, Patches and Elway are my neighbor's (well, not really neighbor anymore, but he lives about 1/2 mile from us) dogs that frequently get out of their yard. Over the past 4 years they've kinda chosen us over their original owners, and spent most of their time here. If they stay the night here, I feed them. This is the first time they've spent a lot of time here since I got Zaphod, though, and Elway is beyond pissed that HIS garage is now occupied by a cocky pup who thinks it belongs to *him*. I'll get pics of the two for you when i upload today's Z photos.
