I got this on my club list.
This is a rescue male we networked from Mid West to Ontario Canada.
His best bud a goat just died and he is acting like he wants to be with his bud.

Any advice I would like to pass on to her.
I gave her medical advice on how to make sure he gets enough calories and water.

But how do you help him mentally?
I dont know if another goat would help.

Hello Everyone
I am getting worried my dog Sully is suffering the loss of his
friend Silhouette a goat,
I will try to explain it as best I can.
Silhouette got tetnus when she was only ten days old, she beat the
odds and not only lived but after months of caring for her she
started walking again, due to the fact she got around by dragging
her back legs her and Sully became friends and she drove him crasy
with the things she would do to him, steal his dog cookies, peed on
hid head because he wanted to sleep when she wanted to play (Sully
woke up and moved after that while giving her dirty looks lol)They
developed a game Sully loved to play with her I would give them each
a cookie Silly gobbled hers, Sully just licked his then he would
push his cookie with his nose towards her,, Silly would start to
move towards it just as she was near enough to take the cookie Sully
would take his paw put it on the cookie and pull it back from her
they did this a lot sometimes Sully gave her the cookie or he would
eat it depending on his mood.

Silly passed away on Jan.11 07. Since
then Sully has stopped eating all his food, he has a poor appetite,
he sleeps in the fetal position, he cries and whines if he sees or
smells anything she used, I boil beef bones for him, he takes them
outside and chews on them beside her grave,, he won't eat them in
the house anymore. He is depressed and very unhappy. I have phoned
the vets all they say is with some animals death will create
phycological problems and damage worse than humans. He feels because
of Sully's breed he may not forget right away and has no ideas
for helping him. Sorry this is a long post but I needed everyone to
understand the special bond these two pets shared. Can anyone offer
me help? Thanks
Billie

I just emailed her what about another goat? The problem is getting a goat to her now in the worse winter spell.
Maybe I will send her one of my sheep but they need to be on mom for another 6 weeks.
I dont know if Sully will last that long.
Im so sad thinking about this 2 BIG losses in this dogs life.

Bimmer was like that when Buffy died. He didn't come round until we brought Shiva home and she teased and pestered him until he gave up and fell for her. He didn't fully recover until I brought Kharma home though.

That dog needs a companion, but it needs to be the right one.

Renee how long was it between those periods?
How long can a dog last with min food? and severe depression?
One thing is I have never had this and I am at a loss.

Do they have a similar product to KMR? We use KMR (Kitten Milk Replacement) sometimes for cats that have little strength or appetite. It's a liquid, high in calories and really can sustain.

I know how you feel. Reminds me of a friend of mine. They started raising lambs and found they could't slaughter any of them. Now they have a bunch of Baaa'ing pets.

I remember when my brother got a baby chick for Easter. That was vogue at that time. The chicks died because nobody knew how to care for them. But not at my house. The chick grew up to be a mean old chicken and attacked anybody who came to our house. Problem was, we were in the City! One day my grandfather came and "brought the chicken to the zoo". We had chicken for dinner that night. I was two young to put two and two together then....

LOl god those memories...... Yep been there but only with my marriage..

They got the point I did not grow up on this eat the fresh lamb or chicken thing.

The only thing I do order is a side of beef each year and I REFUSE to pick out the cow. I dont want to see here nothing just white papered wrapped meat.

Some say Im more of a pet farmer vs a farmer i let allot of land go to waste .
Cause I wont bring in Cows the sheep are doing a great job at lawn mowing.

Oh, you guys are making me weep!! I'm having flashbacks....

I also grew up on lamb for Easter - can't eat it to this day!! (What is it about Italians slaughtering lambs?! Seems anti-christian if you ask me.)

I had a friend when I was little who raised livestock - some to eat but most they didn't because the kids got too attached. Naming the animals and all. They had two pigs - Fred and Wilma, I'll never forget it. Whenever they wanted the kids to straighten up they threatened to make bacon out of Fred and Wilma. Worked like a charm...

I watched them slaughter chickens once. Cut their heads off and the chickens were still running around. Then they hung them on a clothesline so they bled and then they burned the feathers off. I had nightmares!! I can smell that dead chicken smell. I think I need therapy to this day because of that!!

I hope it works out for Sully. A noble undertaking.

I waiting for Sully owner to answer the tel want to speak to her today.

I worked at Fred the Furrier on Park Ave back in the 80's.
Most wont remember his NYC commericials.
UNTIL i saw how they killed the minks then I quit.

Snapping the necks and skinning them alive vs paying for a painfless needle.

Gawd. Is that how they killed them? It wasn't enough that people needed to WEAR them? I saw a docu of a certain country where they threw cats in boiling water, yanked em out and skinned them while some were still trying to breath AFTER they were skinned. I never got over this docu. They had a restaurant with kittens stuffed in a cage for dinner picks. They were all begging for a hug and were about to be dinner. Just horrible. I never get over that stuff after I see it. I can still see the scenes.
