Alrighty,
scenario -

I get back from training Riot with Search and Rescue, I always just let him out of the car, he never leaves my front lawn no matter what, so hes off leash and goes straight to the lawn for a pee or straight to the front door.

Anyways, I notice the neighbourhood dog loose.. AGAIN!!

It lives a few doors down from us (three houses). Its a Beagle, very friendly, but plays that "you can't catch me game".

Its wondering around the street AGAIN!!

Anyways, this is the third time I've caught it for the owners..

They say "the snow makes a landing for him to jump up on and over my fence"

The first few times, they didn't have a collar on them, I told them the next time I find him without a collar I'm taking him to the pound for them.

Well.. I have corraled him again into our backyard, this time hes got a collar on.

Should I call the Humane Society for a pick up, or wait until the owners come home(no one is home, or answering the door right now) to give him back??

I dont want to be a bad neighbour or anything, but this dog gets out on a bi-weekly basis..

Tough call personal relationship wise, easy call dog lover wise. The dogs' safety comes first, imo and I am sure in yours as well. I would call the humane society and be sure to mention the dog is a frequent escape artist. Time for the owners to get a wake up call, before their dog escapes and injured or killed as a result.

I would just keep the dog in your back yard until they get home, then call them and let them know they can get their dog. I don't think you would gain any thing long term from calling the Humane Society.

There is that. The old tit for tat crap that people will play. I guess I'm going to change my advice because it could backfire. Plus, the little guy would be frightened and exposed to other dogs whose health might not be the best...

Hmmmm.... it still bugs the snot out of me that people who know their dog can get out of the fence haven't gotten a better fence or at least contained the dog in a nother way when they aren't there to watch.

Well, I went to go and check on the dog, and some how it scratched its way out of our fence gate(which is hard to do since we have a smaller sheltie! lol) It scratched so much, the gate kept flapping open a bit at the bottom corner.. I went up and down the street looking for him again, but no use, so i called Animal Control about the dog, told them that it gets out consistantly and I told them that I had warned the owners about it before, but no luck. So they are going to go over and give them a professional warning about the dog. if They can't abide by that, then they are getting the dog seized more then likely.

its sad when people done take the proper precautions in researching the breed of dog first, figure out its traits and everything and then getting it :(

So Animal Control is out looking for it right now.. :)

A little Update:

Animal Control just called me and let me know that they found the dog and put it back into the backyard since the owners were home.. and left a notice on their front door..

HOPEFULLY the dog doesn't get out again..

I hate to say it, it's just a posibility. Maybe if it got out of your fence since it's really secure, maybe there's is secure as well.

I could be way off base, you know better than we do

lol no, Our fence is secure for our dogs, because we know their needs and such. its not built for houdini Beagles like that one..

They have a low(4') chain link fence with a swinging gate.

We have a 6' double wooden panel fence that reaches the ground with two swinging wooden panel gates that have extra wire around the rim so Jada couldn't squeeze under it. The Beagle was persistant enough to keep hitting the gate part, and have the extra metal swing back. Thanks how it escaped..

I've seen their fence. The only reason why their dog gets out is because it jumps their fence(the owner told me) because there is snow banks there.

Now.. yo7u'd think you'd either have the dog on a rope, or shovel the snow away or get a taller fence.
